Anyways, if it were an exclusive, would that sway you towards the Xbox? I've been wondering myself if there would be a game, or a combo of games, that would sway me, so it would be interesting to see if other people are swayed.
I've never played a Fallout game before so for me, not really. A couple of my friends though? They would.

Ho ho ho, not believing that one.
Sorry if that seemed like a shot at you, that reaction was more as a result of the article. Bad articles like that always pop up, but they get even worse when something major is happening. Not that I'm saying anything bad about you believing it to be a possibility, but Microsoft would have to pony up some major cash to make up for the loss of PC consumers.
Which reminds me, is the Steam box still a thing?
Yeah, hence my post edit. Seemed like a slight at you Crim when it isn't;its skepticism, and rightful skepticism at that. So apologies from me as well, even if doubt isn't so bad.
So at this point I am wondering how much sugar they are willing to give us to help us swallow it, and MS has the resources to generate lots of sugar
Ok....these metaphores are heading in very wrong places

Dam Right! I didn't buy the Wii either. Despite the "revolutionary" controller.
I honestly don't know if I'd still own a Wii at this point if it weren't also my Gamecube.
There's a reason I don't, and probably won't (for a long while), own a Wii U.

I get it though- people want upgrades on what they had before. What I don't get is the mindset that a bigger number equates to a better product. More and more CAN be good, but isn't unless its utilized.

Thats just it though- are they really distancing from core gamers? Lets think about it for a moment-
All that extra stuff they announced at the reveal. Those were all additions, you can argue necessities and stuff but gaming as a whole isn't a necessity. Now lets talk core-
We still have our games. We can still sit in a game chair with surround sound audio, put on a headset, pick up a controller, and play games. Hell a whole swath of "sugary" exclusives are on the way. And all that is from Sony AND Microsoft.
That hasn't been taken away from us. I would like to think thats what console gaming's all about.
If anything, rather than exclude core gamers, I feel they're including more people. Its what we're expecting(a machine that plays games) that also does other stuff, whether its the PS4 with its social capabilities(and whatever else they haven't announced yet) or Microsoft with what we know already.
I just think gamers love being their own niche and now that its expanding to others(at least on the machines from which we game), gamers are feeling a colossal amount of different feelings.

I've never considered memory and graphics power to be features.
Why?
The lack of memory in the current console gen, is hampering the evolution of games. At the same time, the market's expectations of better graphics, on same old, inept hardware, is leading developers towards increasingly making games into movies, with pauses for shooting galleys. (If you do not get what I mean, have a look at Max Payne 3, for instance).
Please feel free to elaborate why it's a problem, and to who.
Meanwhile, I think you missed the context. With the Ex Box Done, we have to pay for Kinect 2, voice contol and a network that seem to have a dubious purpose. In the PS4, we instead get more free ram, and at least 50% better graphics horse power. And it wouldn't surprise me if it came out cheaper anyway.

The core gamer dislikes being saddled with needless DRM...MS is now hinting that used games are a thing of the past and letting a friend BORROW a game is too unless you want go jump through hoops
The core gamer wants the best gaming experience possible and MS dedicated a sizeable chunk of resources from the console to completely non gaming related things (3 gigs for OSs? Really? Sure Sony might match that but if they stick with a 1 gig of footprint MS better rectify that in short order) and they choose comparatively subpar hardware.
Core gamers want to know about gaming and the reveal of the new machine was 90% about anything but
So as it stand yes, they are taking a distance from core gamers as opposed to including more people

Options are good.
The slim may have had a HDD, but you could decide how big of one, and the Kinect was still and optional peripheral. It didn't force blu-ray on you for no reason.
Now the options are apparently gone.
What could Microsoft do that would make me reconsider?
Add back options.
HDD size is modular, and you can pick your size (this could still be possible, I think.)
Kinect is detachable and you don't need it for most games (part of this could be true, the latter at least.)
You can get a model WITHOUT a disc drive at all! (XBox Live currently lets you buy full games digitally, we have to install to HDD anyway, they want to do these funky deals to get rid of loaning games and drastically change the used games market ANYWAY) Don't give me a blu-ray player, the disc is dead, the disc drive is one of the biggest fail parts on a console!
Learn from the Windows XP debacle and realize that "always checking online for legitimate copies" nonsense is really just penalizing your legitimate customers. It's like saying "If you aren't doing anything illegal, you won't mind if the police stop by your house once a day to see the deed to your house, the registration for your vehicles, check out your social security number and fingerprints to know who you are---if everything's on the up-and-up, why do you care?"
Those steps would go a LONG way to making me consider the console.
