This makes sense to me -if- Sony launches the PS4 at $500, which I think they will because they want to avoid another FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS backlash, and I also think Microsoft will consider being able to beat the PS4 on price an important point of consideration, given how much that helped them last generation (both will be losing money on the console sales no matter what, so what's another $100?). 

On the other hand, I could easily see both launching at $499.

Kinect 1.0 was. I don't know how much money goes into making an individual Kinect 2.0, but who knows. Perhaps it'll add another $100 that wouldn't have been there had it been excluded, or perhaps its effectively "free".

MS took 1 000 000 000 loss on the 360 on top of what they planned because cliff blizinsky asked for additional ram to fun GoW

Yeah, Xbox One is preordering well in the UK by all reports I've seen. We'll see how well preorders go in the States.

If you mean the blockbuster pre orders in the Uk, they only started selling consoles 4 years ago, so they could have 1 console pre ordered and they could break their record. Which it what makes it so utterly hilarious and stupid that no article has pointed that out. So much sloppy research a 3 year old with crayons could write a better article than the majority of these writers.

It would be interesting to see to what extent the X1 is affected and if MS back tracks on it. We managed to do it with the Mass Effect ending, Got Ubisoft to back down with it's always on DRM rubbish etc.

I wouldn't hold my breath though, MS is a whole new level of stubborn.

that's MS's gamble, they hope the E3 exclusives will be enough for people to preorder. We will see
Still no answer on the damn OS footprint, Sony seems really determined to say nothing

Something also came to my mind, even if Xbox footprint was, indeed, that much larger a rectification is just an update away (like Sony did with PS3)

I imagine the only reason X1 preorders are higher than PS4 in the UK right now is because no one's really seen the PS4 yet. Not really.

And after its revealed, it'll have a little more steam, so I won't be surprised if preorder superiority changes. But again, we'll see.

If even after E3 Microsoft is still leading preorders, than damn, must've been some good games revealed.

knowing MS they could very well backtrack and say that that was what they meant all along and such
