EA is far from the worst company in the world....Complaining about microtransactions looks ridiculous when you compare it to actual unethical practices that corporations get away with.
And before anyone says it, yes I'm an EA agent. But that's besides the point.
First of all. I have never voted for EA in that competition. Not even once.
But that defense ("EA is far from,..."), is misrepresenting the competition. It's not about who is the big villain. If it had been, it would have featured things like Monsanto, Exxon and Google. But how could average citizens even vote in such a competition? They don't know anything about what those companies do.
The competition is about customer relations. And yes, I can easily see how EA wins that, year after year. How do you propose BoA is even going to have a chance to compete? Their average customer is not pissed at all, and the average customer also has the ability to go elsewhere for same service.
The same is certainly not true about EA.
Their market is a rather stirred wasps nest, which has been poked and knocked for a good while, with various illadviced schemes and gross mishandling. This is then the same wasps nest, that MS in their blind, deaf, arrogant ignorance, willfully expects to be able to handle and move about, just as it suits them.
Popcorn everybody. The coming months will be interesting.

I decided I will be charging a fee when I recommend games to other people. When I recommend a game, I make the publisher $60 many times, while receiving zero compensation myself. I make companies too much money, and to survive in today's economy, I need compensation for that to continue. Also, any monetary sum acquired from me may not be put into any form of savings account, unless I reobtain 30% of the interest.
That is exactly how stupid supply side is being.
Ye-up.
That, and they are ignoring first-sale. You know, the law. Which the law is oddly circumvented for the rental of music recordings or computer software (except by libraries and non-profits)
And before "digital is DIFFERENT" (read: here's another chance for big companies to change the law to allow them more control over what should, in a right world, be enterting public domain in 25 years) is shouted, courts are kinda siding with not agreeing with that. This problem isn't really solved in the USA because the legislative body is too busy trying to bring obstructionism to an artform and the courts don't want to rule on something that congress hasn't created a law for yet.

But hey, Origin!<3
Uhm, unless you specifically uninstall, msconfig block, or some other way tell Origin to not run on start-up... Origin is running on start-up.
This isn't evil. This is NORMAL for the major of software.
I'm not saying I like this. If I want quicktime, realtime or open office to open... I'll open it. I don't need a "ready to start" program running in the background, chewing up resources, just so it can load nanoseconds faster.

I do block a lot of stuff with msconfig, actually. Why does Chrome think it needs to update (Google Update)? And Apple too, they're pests. So I just turn it off.

Interesting, but they may need to go further. It might be nicer if the used a reporting system similar to the one from DotA 2. If you report someone for being abusive in DotA 2, Valve will send you a nice little message reading "Thanks for improving the DOTA community! Someone you've reported we've taken action against." Apparently, ever since they implemented this system, there has been a 35% drop in negative communications, and 60% of players who get banned modify their behavior.Blind2Society wrote...
So I've found one thing about the box that may be a positive, though it could go horribly wrong.
"...and introducing a new Reputation system that will (hopefully) mitigate the bigotry and offensive language spewed by players in online gaming sessions.
“There is a new system in what we call Live 3.0 internally that totally remaps the matchmaking, and there is a reputational element to it as well," Phil Harrison, one of Microsoft's corporate vice president for games, told Kotaku. “We want the best gaming citizens of Xbox Live to be mapped together and joined together and I think that’s a really positive movement for the community.”"

And the camera really isn't like 1984 because it's out in the open about it. In 1984 it was a secret, and that was why it had power.

I bought Mass Effect 3 based on the very public statements of "Multiplayer is not required to get the best ending", to discover that it was required to get the best ending.
Well, in their defense they did end up fixing that. Plus, all the endings sucked anyway. Also, ME3 MP is the best MP ever and if you haven't played it you are missing out.

Is it really the best or is it that the universe's so engrossing that you like it best? I honestly don't know since I tend not to play MP.

Well, that's certainly part of it. Just play it you will not be disappointed. I didn't put over 1000h into it for nothing. It's a tough game but with practice...

I've played plenty. That is not to say, of course, that there aren't things they can improve.
But, since the way you worded your post subtly implies you think your opinion is more important (it isn't FYI), do share what MPs you feel are better and why.

Shamelessly defending it. Wow. So get one, and if you have kids, tell them to smile and wave while the camera analyzes them and sends their info to businesses across the globe.

I can see it doesn't take very much to impress you. I'll avoid stating all the problems with the greed machine that is Origin as this isn't the thread for it. I'm sure a quick "Origin sucks" search will prove satisfactory.

I'm not shamelessly defending it at all. I have no intention to ever buy a concole, or to own any hardware that points a camera at my face and tells me, *wink wink* that it's not on (like a laptop).
I'm just correcting your false comparison.

Big big hint, friend: I was joking, it was a troll thread.
Really, you shouldn't take your luxury so seriously. It's just a game/computer. None of us need this. Why is it SRS BIZNEZZ?
