You don't have to check in every 24 hours, just each time you play. Then 24 hours after you're done, you'll need to check in again.

So basically, 24 hours after your LAST game session, you'll need to have a check in the next time you play.

They really have gone full retard. Although the bit about licensing makes slightly better reading... I think... Am I reading this wrong or does it mean that I can essentially buy a game, install it and then give it to my mate for free?

"Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

So only one of us needs to buy it? That can't be right.

It conveniently omits the part of what happens to your virtual copy of the game. I bet you're basically transferring it to a friend, otherwise publishers are losing sales. As I understand it, say you buy a physical copy of CoD 87 and get bored after a while. So you give it to a friend who hasn't played it yet. Once he installs from the disc, the Overlord (we need to call it something, right?) will verify it's actually your copy of the game and that you have authorized the transfer of your copy to that person. The game will uninstall from your library and install in his. This transfer can only be done once for any retail copy of a game and is permanent.

I still find it extremely odd that they aren't charging for the transfer. Of course, this encourages people to bypass retailers and exchange copies between friends. Maybe they gave it more thought than I give them credit for after all.

There is also this:

"Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: XboxOne will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games.  You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."

So I can buy a copy and 10 other people can play it? How do they verify it's family members? I have to be reading this wrong. They are cutting out countries/areas without broadband and letting one person buy a game for 10 people? Install it, don't need the disc, give it to your "family" of 10. This isn't making sense to me.

[b]EDIT:
I formatted this like a retarded monkey on speed. Copy and pasting doesn't agree with BSN it seems.

Your "family" will probably be those people that have an account on your "home" console. Just to be safe, the X1 won't let you register more than ten accounts on any given console so it's up to you to decide who's "family."

Oops I didn't see this.

That makes sense about giving games to your friends. There's still way too much they aren't telling us and I'm way too tired from lack of sleep to make sense of it tonight.

I figured out that family bit after reading it like 6 times. The wording fooled me for a while, but them needing an account on your console too makes the most sense. I suppose they will have a way around you and your mate setting up secondary accounts on each others console and thus sharing your libraries.

So, Joe has to cut internet for a few months to save expenses, no games for him. This is so out of touch.

Okay, this made me shake my head -

"who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

What if I want to give the game to multiple friends?

For example, I lend it to multiple friends, 2/3 friends decides to purchase the game based off the experience they got from borrowing it. Dafuq.

The family sharing thing is odd. On the one hand, if you compare it to HBO Go or Netflix or Amazon Prime or any other streaming service, it sounds like pretty standard stuff. On the other hand, if they're attempting to combat used games, this seems to defeat the purpose unless there's wording we're missing - "family" being required to have accounts on the home X1 seems most likely.

The X1 having something akin to a Steam Library actually sounds pretty sweet, though.

"Can" doesn't ensure that they "will." It's up to the publishers.

You can't lend it to anyone, you can only give. Then they have no need to buy. It's bizarre, np more having a quick borrow for a night, deciding to buy it and returning it to your mate in work the next day.

I get what you're saying, lending a game to a friend so they can decide whether they want to buy it or not. The problem is they'll problem beat the game and end up not buying the game as a result. Thus, "lending" turns into "transferring permanently."

Mind you, I'm just speculating. We need something more concrete.

In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners.

I'd say this lines up rather nicely with what we've been discussing:

While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.

The X1 will check to determine the origin of your copy, be it resold, traded in, or given by a friend, and act accordingly.

So the Kinect sounds a little less creepy. Then again, they could just simply be lying. *shrugs*

They definitely did make me consider the X1 just a little bit more though. The system in place makes game loaning less liberal, but how often do you really lend out games to friends? If I'm bored with a game, I just usually give it away. It seems that this is the policy they're putting into place.

Another fine print:

We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.

According to this, publishers decide whether to allow you to trade in your copy of a game and where.

EDIT: Same as PS4 really.

And bringing your console to the cottage suddenly stopped being a thing.

That kinda sucks.

Are we talking about the product that apparently measures your heartrate, a "feature" you can turn off? When the TX-100 comes for us all, they'll say it started with the kinetic.
