"..[E]ach game can only be given once."

I don't want to ask my friend if he got this game from someone else. I'll sound like an ass.

"Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. ... In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends."

So basically they are saying don't blame MS for fees or not being able to trade your games.

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

Well that's just dumb.

They're basically leaving online DRM up to the publishers, same as Sony.

Remember the good old days when you could just... nevermind.

Each gen is getting more and more convoluted. The whole thing, not just picking on the One.

I still find this amount of DRM to be incredibly dumb.

I'll have to see what's wrong with the PS4 now.

Even with all the crap that Microgreed is trying to pull the biggest and most upsetting news for me is them canceling the post conference roundtable.

If you don't see what they are doing with this move and why it should make Xbox an automatic no-purchase then may God have mercy on your soul.

Sony has the opportunity to put the Xbox out of business if they don't push for the same anti-consumer tactics with the PS4.

At this point they can take the easy way out and say that the PS4 doesn't officially have any DRM policy, but publishers can operate however they want to. That way it's the same result but they don't have to be the bad guys.

Why would they even do that though? Sony now has the chance to bury their major competitor thereby increasing their consumer base and sales.

Because it's the safest route to take. They still gain a part of Microsoft's market share due to public perception, they make the same kind of cut that Microsoft would off of the new DRM, and they stay in the good graces of publishers. It's a sure bet for them.

So you think that if Sony doesn't include the new anti-consumer requirements in their PS4 that MS included in their Xbox1, publishers won't give them exclusives or make their games to be PS4 compatable?

I don't agree with you on that. What MS is doing with their new console is completely new and untested. Sony has no obligation to follow suit and publishers would have no right to get upset if they don't. Publishers would also have a lot to lose if they banned their games from the PS4. Consumers will also get just as incensed at Sony as they are now at MS for including these anti-consumer practices.

We'll see what happens though.

Both the PS4 & the XB1 will have this online requirement. An online requirement for online features I have no problem with at all. But not allowing me to play the games I've purchased because I'm not online is just ridiculous and I won't subscribe to that stipulation. Regardless of how brief this "check in" is, it's invasive, unnecessary, and domineering. I adds absolutely nothing to the consumers experience. In fact it weakens the consumer experience.

I can imagine a lot of people that own 360's going to buy PS3's and playing all the exclusives they missed out on, instead of upgrading to either of the new consoles. I certainly plan to once the crop of 360 games gets thin.

Who knows? Maybe in the mean time Nintendo will decide to compete in the premium console market again sooner rather than later. It'd be great if the big N were the BIG N once again.

They honestly can't be this greedy and hungry for control. It's like, they're trying to deliberately destroy the industry.

Dunno, turning your xbox into your TV, roku, AC control and toaster sounds like synthesis to me.

Ugh gaming next gen looks like it will be a pain in the ass, is it worth it anymore?

Remember the days where you could just pick up your copy of a game and go around to a mates house  to play it without needing to jump through hoops?

The industry will crash if they continue to control the already-paid-for game and console. People won't take this kind of crap. Either everyone will buy/build a gaming PC or they'll just tick with current-gen consoles until Sony Microsoft or even Nintendo(big N for other reasons) get their head out of their bums. In any case, the industry isn't gonna sustain itself on the minority that buys new technology for the nvelty of it or can afford a connection all the time and even then, don't mind all the restrictions. It's all gonna collapse if it continues down this ludicruous path.

I think the need to connect every 24 hours has put me off buying. I spent 3 months without internet recently waiting for technicians to fix various faults on the line and I live in a state capital.
If the connection every 24 hours was required now that would have been 3 months I had to do without any console gaming. It's not just people living in the fabled cottage in the woods that will get screwed over with that.
