(maybe because of the limited competition on PCs).
The restrictions on XBox one means that the potential market is smaller than X360 and concerns over anti-consumer policies will hurt sales further so it is highly unlikely to do as well as the X360.
If the PS4 is more consumer-friendly then Sony will easily win the next round of the console war and the xbox one will be a big failure for Microsoft.
The game industry with it's oversimplified grasp of business may think Microsoft's restrictions are a good thing but if they can sell more on a PS4 they will go there.

Because gamers, that's why. They said themselves gamers will buy anything they put out.MegaSovereign wrote...
There has to be a reason why MS is so confident that these restrictions won't affect sales. There has to be.

I don't think I've ever seen a game console get so much negative press pre-release. If Microsoft doesn't make some big changes between now and release, then as far as I'm concerned they've already lost the next-gen. And I say this as a 360 owner. Definitely gonna switch to PS4 if there aren't drastic changes.
I feel bad for guys like you. While I generally prefer Sony's exclusives, I certainly understand someone's devotion to Xbox and it's games. Now they're loading all this non-user friendly garbage on you. That's Microsoft's way of saying thanks.

There's two reasons that I can see:
1. Gamers have shown that many of us don't care about these kinds of issues
2. Of those that do care, many of us have shown that they have no backbone and will buy it anyway
I'd guess they think that any loss in sales on the gamer market will be made up by the fact that it's being marketed as an "entertainment device" so non gamers will be buying it, in theory.

Xbox One has not impressed many gamers regardless of their DRM policies. Many analysts suspect that the Xbox One will actually be more expensive at launch than the PS4. There is literally no reason MS is this confident.
They're probably hoping that non-gamers and people who don't care out weigh the others

I imagine that they think the biggest non DRM disappointment of the reveal, the lack of any games, will be sorted out at E3.
The X1 is also publisher friendly. I wouldn't count out the idea that companies like EA and Activision are going to view the X1 as being good for business. Like them or not, they make up a very considerable % of the market right now.

I think it's true in so far, if gamers don't have options, other than the option to not buy it, which is where MS' arrogance comes into it. As there is no backwards compatibility and there don't seem to be any really big exclusives beyond Gears of War and Halo, which have been knocking about for over a decade now, is there anything to stop people just walking away?
There's the PS4 and the PC. Beyond brand loyalty, which MS has shat all over, there's not much to keep people with Xbox if they choose not to put up with it, and decide that the other two options offer a better deal.

I so hope this will not turn out to be true. Maybe console gamers will draw a line this time. This far, no farther!

It's publisher friendly because M$ is trying to shift the blame to Publishers in-case they say "No, you can't sell our games or buy them used"

Thanks for the sympathy. I've definitely enjoyed games like Halo, Gears of War, and Alan Wake. Too bad Microsoft decides to "thank" me this way. I'd think they would've learned from the SimCity debacle. Just watch - when the X1 comes out, it's going to be SimCity times a hundred.
As for Sony, the only Sony exclusive I'm really interested in is the God of War games. Games like Uncharted and Heavy Rain are cinematic enough I can just watch Let's Plays of them without losing much. Hopefully PS4 will offer them on its Cloud service.

Well the people in group 1 will still buy it anyway because they don't care about the DRM or used games issues.
Sony is in a great position to grab up a lot of people in group 2, though since as you said they have an alternative that isn't "don't buy anything at all".
It depends on how their DRM works which according to the link in this thread they've taken the stance of "We're not adding DRM, we're just adding DRM that the developers can turn on". I gotta imagine that means a lot of cross platform titles will have that DRM turned on, because it's already on for the X1.

Well, to attract the casual crowd you need to market your machine as affordable.....
Not even the casual crowd will put up with this. The only buyers as it stands right now are the ones that just don't care, and the uninformed. Which by launch time there wont be many of the latter left, even my mom knows X-1 is a joke and I haven't mentioned a thing about it. She found out all on her own. Really I think they have underestimated how creeped out by Kinect 9000 people are going to be.

It doesn't really matter why it's that way, just that it is.
It might not be enough, but I still wouldn't count it out because of it being better for publishers.
I think at this point it doesn't really matter if people blame EA for more things anyway, because we're going to find something to blame them for either way.
