Tali is the best at tech, but Garrus is also good. Take Garrus if you want a squishy sniper, or Tali if you want a shotgun wielder with ridiculous shielding.

With my Adept I ran through the game with Wrex and Tali, and they make a fantastic team.

Kaiden's decent as a support character, however, and has biotics that the other two don't, improving his utility.

Hehe, bara fint här :D

I usually end up playing a mage or thief in my first play-through in a game, so I went with Adept here... though I'm kind of frustrated by all the stuff I can't break into due to low electronics so I have to try another class for sure on my next try. This character though, I somehow managed to get her to look just like Audrey Hepburn. It actually took me an hour or so to figure out how to work the character creator system but you can make some lovely faces there. She's very pretty and I never want to abandon her :D

So happy not to just sit around beat my head against the wall while waiting for Dragon Age expansions and DLC, heeee...

Speaking of DLC, I heard there were some for ME? Are they worth it? :)

Hey if your interested in seeing the improvements to the adept for Mass Effect 2 you should check the link

I suggest Ashley or Wrex to round out your combat strength, too - with skill points in the right places, they're good damage sponges.

I think Tali is the best damage sponge around actually, she has two skills that increase her shields. Give her a shield regenerator upgrade or energised weave and she not only has huge shields, but regains them fairly quickly too.

In my soldier playthrough with Tali and Wrex, I ended up with Wrex being squishier than Tali, and I had to keep Wrex back with his assault rifle while I and Tali charged with shotguns (Ordering people around independently of each other is a huge bonus of the PC version over the Xbox one).

I'm glad you like the game OP. Welcome to the club!

My adept team was Liara/Garrus. Garrus is a wizard with that sniper rifle and can open up crates without trouble. Liara was an overkill, but I liked bringing her along since she's my chosen love interest. Wrex would be a good choice.

In terms of specializations, Bastion > Nemesis.

@Ceoselstan

You obviously didn't go for immunity with Wrex and Ashley. It makes them both nigh invulnerable. Especially Wrex if you maxed out Barrier and got him some good heavy armor.

Wow! Adept in ME 2 looks wonderful! I can't wait! Though I obviously need to finish playing through the first game though, first, hehe. Having so much time. Loving the people in the party. Which is where my next question is coming from... (I'm sorry, just ignore me if I'm asking too many questions here - you guys have already been awesome help).

In Dragon Age, for instance, I'll become better friends with the NPCs I bring along on my mission. For this reason, I've been bringing the ones that I keep thinking my character would like to hang out with, rather than what would perhaps be more optimal as far as their skills go and for my survival. If I leave a character hanging in the ship constantly, even if I talk to them in between missions, will this have a negative impact on my relationship with them? Or can I just pick my mission partners based on their skills and still have friendships or romances with the characters I left on the ship?

Still learning the game and there's a lot to learn. Finally getting a hang of the jumping/bouncing/falling-over vehicle, though, hehe.

Thanks again, guys :)

Okay, here’s the thing. I love RPGs. For the most part, I’ve preferred to play the Fantasy variety but on occasion, I
can deal with Sci-fi as well (as in the Fallout series, for example). I’m in love with Dragon Age at the moment but after the fifth play-through, I’m half-looking for something to do until the expansion.

Because I’ve never been a huge Sci-fi fan, I’ve somehow missed out on the whole Mass Effect thing. Never played the first one and had no clue about this one. But now I see this is available in a while and I’m thinking, maybe this is something for me? So if anyone has a moment, could they possibly help me out and see if it’s something I might enjoy? I’m looking primarily at the sequel here, oogling it on Steam actually.

How much RPG is this game? Does the storyline have depth and are there NPCs that you can get to know and interact with, beyond just a shooting buddy that runs along and attacks things when you do? Completely disregarding the Sci-fi theme, what other RPG is this the most like, if any at all? Is the character creator innovative and resourceful? How is the ingame art design? I’ve been looking all over but all I can seem to find
are some trailers and previews, and nothing that really helps me out here. I don’t want to waste my money but if this is anything in the vicinity of the Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dragon Age, or similar, I feel like I might be missing out. I’m looking through pages now trying to find information but I’d really love to hear someone’s personal input here, from someone who’s played the game.

Is it more storyline or more action? I have a nasty feeling it might be a bit too much like an FPS for me and I’m not very good at those types of games. Fallout 3 was stretching it but I loved the world and story so much I could deal with the action :)

I’d ask one of my friends but no one’s tried it out. My apologies if it’s impertinent of me to come here and ask these questions but I’m curious. Thanks for any help!

It's a BioWare game, the best thing to compare it to would be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It's a story-driven RPG with shooter elements. You can romance squadmates, do personal quests, etc.

Here's a trailer of it.

I'd suggest playing the first before the sequel.

Wrex.the.next.spectre why you hate soldiers so badly? Did my first pt as a soldier (well 2, he's 56, waiting for insanity to unlock for his final pt and his way to 60), doing an adept now on hardcore to unlock insanity, and they feel TOTALLY different, which makes me want to recommend them both to everybody, having 2 games in the same package is epic win as far as I'm concerned

I just don't enjoy it as much. Some games do the Warrior/Soldier type well. In ME1, I didn't feel that class was unique. And from the looks of it, I don't like Ammo powers so the Soldier will not be as unique or enjoyable.

With that said, I rank the classes like this(in terms of how much I will enjoy them):
Adept, Engineer, Sentinel, Vanguard, Soldier, and Infiltrator last.

I agree with you that with 6 unique classes, it feels like 6 different games in 1. Although, I will probably only end up playing the first 4 classes on my list.

If I leave a character hanging in the ship constantly, even if I talk
to them in between missions, will this have a negative impact on my
relationship with them? Or can I just pick my mission partners based on
their skills and still have friendships or romances with the characters
I left on the ship?

It will not have a negative impact, at least in ME1. Although certain missions will hint at which character you should take. For example, when you do Wrex's mission, he will tell you he wants to be there when you do it.

ME2 puts a lot of attention on loyalty. And we don't know for sure how it works yet.

Infiltrator LAST? You're kidding! D: Well, whatever floats your boat I guess. :)

@Nassegris

It's not like Dragon Age in that regard, it doesn't matter what members you bring along for a mission. They all like/dislike you all the same. It mostly depends on what you say to them on the ship. Apparently, this will change in Mass Effect 2, where you have to gain their trust.

Ahh, that's great to know. Happy to hear it'll change in ME2, I found it very intriguing in Dragon Age :) On the other hand, it's a relief to know I don't have to drag along someone that doesn't match my character as far as skill goes. I think I'll learn a lot about how to do this on the first run, and then manage better with my second character. I'm sure I've already made a lot of stupid choices, but it's been a great help to run to this thread and check out your responses :D Thanks again!

I'm going Paragon all the way, as much as I can, with this character. I sometimes try to play mean and vicious in games but usually end up feeling horrible about it, at least if it's an RPG (Can't count Overlord II, it was pretty fun being evil there, hehe). I might try go Renegade on my next run but I doubt I can pull it off without chickening out.

I don't like snipers much. And cloaking is not that impressive to me. So two of that classes' strengths I don't find to be enjoyable. Incinerate is their only ability I am looking forward to, and I can use it as an Engineer.

I am sure everyone has different opinions, and as far as I know, no one has played the game yet so I am also sure that those opinions will change.
