If he's not well developed it's the writers fault. Well developed or not I'd still trade Merrill for him .

I'd say Sebastian was decent as a character but his interactions were great, his constant discussions with Elthina allow you to know more about the Grand Cleric and his drive for vengeance being driven into the ground as he learns about his position in the world.

Hell, I believe his rivalry and friendship arcs were the most well-done in the sense that it's a conflict of character and you help him resolve it, rather than just being a gigantic dick and somehow having rivalry matter. Some of his lines--least in the Rivalry path as I've never done friendship--are wonderful and when he reassures that he'll take back Starkhaven, I can imagine Hawke bro-fisting him.

Helps too that he adds a lot to the final scene, makes killing Anders even better because he bro-fists me. I'd like to imagine Viscount Hawke and Lord Sebastian going out on the town.

I found him boring beyond belief in DA2. Still, if the writers can somehow make him more interesting, I won't object.

Well said and I agree. I found Sebastian to one of the few decent characters in DA2, especially on Rivalry. Rest were crap, imo.

Hawke disappeared, Sebastian prince without her? Oooooh! The vitriol on the forums would be amazing!

I think the only thing I find interesting is what light he sheds on various chantry beliefs (especially with the interactions with Elthina). I wonder where his hangups about political power even come from. Did Elthina brainwash him with her more passive philosophy? Because Andraste herself was a leader of armies. And Leliana herself says the Chantry might just settle into Kirkwall and put a beatdown on everyone. Elthina finds the prospect distasteful and even wants you to lie to Leliana. All throughout the game, she doesn't want to lift a finger against anyone, even the Qunari. She doesn't even care if you tell her Anders is planning something bad. Sebastian is crippled by confusion and guilt, but it's mostly because of Elthina's beliefs.

Sebastian is a fail character. Of course I will elaborate:

He is not capable of doing anything. He keeps whining, mostly about if he should return to starkhaven or not. At the end he can't even decide and leaves it at the hand of maker and keeps breaking his vows to the chantry in the same time. Insecurity at its best. He can't even seek justice for his family and relies on Hawke to do everything and hides in chantry meanwhile. Without Hawke he is simply nothing.

In someone playthroughs that I kept Anders alive and he threatened to bring "true justice" to kirkwall I couldn't suppress laughter. It was like a angry child's threat to stop breathing if his parents don't buy him toys.

He can make an appearance but that doesn't make him any less faillure of a character.

Yeah, I don't think I would've really cared as much about the Chantry exploding if I didn't see Elthina talking with Sebastian; she'd just be some woman who kept turning up whenever Orsino and Meredith met. I didn't really like her, actually -- she didn't really accomplish much but let tension build and build, as Meredith got harsher and harsher and the mages went nuttier and nuttier, and I was rivalling Sebastian -- but it was nice to have a better "face" to think of when the thing blows. Makes it seem as though people actually died, not just random NPCs I didn't really know.

Did you know Sebastian has his own own murder knife?  It would have been far more powerful of a scene at the end if Sebastian has attempted to kill Anders and Hawke had the *CHOICE* of letting him or stopping him

I think it fits his character. The Fade is treated a bit normal gameplay wise, but the lore reflects something else entirely. It's no place not only for the "religious", but mortals in general. Mages are different.. they're constantly drawing on an awareness to the Fade. They're the only ones connected to it, even when awake and walking around. It's one of the things people fear about them the most. Just the idea of a mage is a taboo in itself. It's why some turn a blind eye to Tranquility. Or worse, suggest all mages should be tranquil. They are that scared of it.

I think the reason they didn't offer a sebastian-killing-anders scene was simply because they were trying to keep Sebastian alive for future stories, a character taking initiative without groveling at the player's feet would've made a lot of people ask for Sebastian's head on a pike.

That and they'd have to make an entirely new scene.

Sebastian never really spent much time in my parties, but he's got unfinished business so I'd be pretty happy to see him return.

Though his rivalry path annoys me because I get stuck with too much friendship for lots of stuff that has nothing obvious to do with the whole "Should I be a prince?" thing, like not wanting there to be an exalted march against Kirkwall.  And I don't really feel like his story was one that really made sense to be spread out over 7 years - it makes him seem like a terrible waffler.

They could have allowed Hawke to say "You do it" without him necessarily taking the initiative

Well, he's in Hawke's company. He learned "waffling' from the Master of Waffling. That is, if you're not a pretty dedicated Aggressive Hawke.

I think it's safe to say that Kirkwall is the waffle capital of Thedas.

I like Sebastian well enough, I would even consider him a friend to my hawke and I wouldn't mind seeing him again. but last I knew he was threatening to destroy Kirkwall. which might have had something to do with exalted marches, and had that attack taken place, I would've killed him(given the chance)

You don't tell Elthina she's useless, you belligerently scream at her to get out of your way - one of the reasons why I detest the terrible paraphrasing system.

It seemed more to me like a result of Sebastian being a DLC character, in the same way that Varric never includes him at the end like he does with Hawke's other romance options - even if female Hawke romanced Sebastian throughout the storyline.

Given this scene, it'd odd that Sebastian turns a blind eye to an apostate Hawke. We never even get to see a scene where Sebastian addresses that Hawke is an illegal mage living outside the Circle.

Yeah, Hawke's passivity isn't much better in comparison.

I`d deffinatly like to see Sebastian again. i felt he arrived abit too late to the party in DA2. Couldn`t find a place for him in my group, so i suspect i missed alot of interesting banters and such.

I'd like to see Sebastian again, although with the Mage-Templar War and the chaos in the Chantry I'd suppose that he's gone back to Starkhaven to at least provide some stability to the region. In the event of Viscountess/Princess Hawke there would need to be some explaining to be done.

The bolded really did help me know Elthina. I felt for him cuz she was like a mother to him. And I liked her meself. I felt almost kindred cuz these ppl were going crazy all around me, and I was just trying to survive. The chantry incident had much more impact for me cuz of him.

I took him w/me a good deal, but it seemed I couldn't completely rival or friend him out. The lil bar kept going up and down. Lol!

Ah well. I'd definitely like to see him in DA3.
