Only if I get to kill the annoying, preachy, hypocritical, indecisive, chantry-loving, self righteous, incompetent, arrogant, narrow minded little ****.

Still peeved at the fact that I didn't get to set his eyes on fire at the end of DA2. :pinched:

Odd... I always thought that about Leliana when I first started DA: O

It's a funny thing but my character was MORE radical than Anders. Saintly Paragon Diplomat Malificar who nevertheless went ALL aggressive when the subject of Templars came up. Blood Magic will liberate the circle and all that rot.

Yet even *HE* killed Anders, probably because killing an old woman in a church (plus how many parishioners) wasn't going to do any good.

I also think Sebastian showed the only sane reaction. "Wait, why are you annuling the Circle? Anders is RIGHT HERE!"

I think Anders knew full well that Elthina was a decent enough person.

That's why he killed her. His intention was to take out the chance of peace. Not merely destroy the Chantry. He saw people like her as a chance for compromise. He didn't want compromise. Personally, I think that's enough reason to kill him. I'm not enough of an idealist to see his point of view. I equally hate the Qunari, but I'd compromise with them if they stayed the hell away from everyone.

Wow, that... Really makes his character even more hypocritical and irredeemable. "Their blood is on your hands" indeed.

@Willowhugger

Agreed. I don't get all the hate for Sebastian considering that most people would be reacting the same way. You see someone kill your mother right in front of you? You try to think rationally when someone you looked up to as a friend/someone you really respect protects him.

Of all your companions, Anders is the only one that deserved to die.

Yeah, war was inevitable but Anders sped things along by doing his Archduke Ferdinand assassination. Still, it occurs to me there's no reason he couldn't have targeted Meredith for the same results.

Anders was also ready to die for what he did.

It was justice (in his mind).

Its not just about the ending. Its the fact he never did anything except preach and waffle about the choices in his life.

I would have liked him more if I had seen him take more action. Even Elthina got annoyed with him after you do his quest in Act 2

True. He's indecisive. I wouldn't really see that as justification for killing him, though.

@Willow

That says something about what he did that when he even he knows it was wrong.

To be fair, I appreciated his waffling. Too many fantasy series are "Yay monarchy."

Sebastian was the first hero I knew to say, "You know, the common people don't give a **** about whose on the throne."

Right after that, you can still tell him that makes him exactly ideal to lead. Kind of like Captain Anderson in Mass Effect. He doesn't want the job either, but he's a lot better than Udina.

Yeah, it's just nice to have someone a little less naive than Robb Stark.

Yes, I liked his hestitancy to reclaim the throne and most likely begin a war that kills thousands of people. To make that kind of decision, you'd have to be sure it's the right thing to do and even contemplate different paths.

Unlike a certain someone who ignited an even bigger war and made sure there was no chance for compromise...

You could make an argument that Sebastian isn't waffling but made the choice that he's going to hedge his bets until his cousin proves a tyrant.

Only if I can rip openhis back to check for a spine to mount on my wall ala Predators.

The only useful thing about him is at the beginning of The Last Straw:
"Why are we using the right of annulment when the man that did this is RIGHT HERE?"

if he comes back I sure hope I can kill that prejudiced hypocritical maker butt kissing Andraste's knicker humping weasel. I hate that guy so damn much and was really bummed I could not kill him every single one of my Hawke's would have killed that ******. Thats a compliment bioware you already knew you could make us love your characters now you know you can make us loathe them as well but not in a utterly reject his existence way like with space brat but rather in a I love this guy in this universe so I can hate him kind of way.

May I ask what annoyed you so much?

My guess is they either obsessively love Anders, or hate religious people.

You would guess wrong on both counts.

Anders lived on one playthru of the 5 I completed it was the one my Hawke romanced him.

Sebastian is very close minded and narrowminded, for him their is one viewpoint and it is his.  Everyone else is wrong.  Thats the kind of religious person I don't like the ones that leave no room for error in their own judgements he demonstrates this a few times in the game, I feel bad I have not played the game in 2 years so I cannot cite specific examples for you, but at the end of my 3rd game, the 2nd where I played with Sebastian, I realized he repulsed me with his jerkyness so I didn't bother to recruit him on the 4th and 5th playthru.  Now thats saying something since Anders and Fenris really pissed me off a few times so I thought I could handle anything but Sebastian rubbed me wrong Maybe I'll break out the game this summer and see if I still view him in the same light.... ugh but then I have to endure the recycled maps again.

Every character was pretty obsessed with their one issue and talked about it all the time, (except Varric) unlike Fenris and Anders, Sebastien was positive and encouraging. Killing all mages, killing all Templars, consorting with demons and using blood magic(and being eager to sacrifice an innocent boy to a demon),etc...vs healing and forgiveness? Yeah, what a horrible bastard he was...Sebastien never tried to force anything on anyone, in conversation he mentions that he had led a shallow, selfish and empty life but found joy and purpose with the maker.

He never once tells you to follow the maker as Anders directly tells you to help mages and kill Templars, Fenris tells you to kill mages and save slaves, Aveline tells you to follow the law even when it's unjust (elves being raped) Merril wants you to sell Feynriel to a demon, Isabella makes fun of anyone who isn't promiscuous that's a lot of stuff to be shoved down your throat, why not hate those guys? It's like the people who hate Elthina but not the Viscount. They are in exactly the same position except the viscount has actual power to change things but doesn't do anything, at least Elthina tries to make peace on her own, the viscount does nothing except send you on errands.

Do you think that people who hate Anders and Merrill also hate religious people, considering how both characters are religious?

They might also just hate mages and/or stupidity.

He wouldn't. That is the problem

Right, and how does that make him stupid?

And then a demon would be in charge of Starkhaven! Do you not see the issue at all?

No, since I don't see how Garon would know that a demon would be in charge, not anyone in fact.

I'm saying we don't know, you're the one making assumptions about what is or is not happening there.

No, I' saying nothing has happened, otherwise he would say so. Why would Hawke want to hear "everything is good in Starkhave , you know? No wars there! Just got a message to confirm it!"? If there was a crisis, Sebastian would state so, and say during dialog banter whether he should go or not.

Instead he says he will go when Starkhaven needs him in the future.

When did he ever do this?

In dialog with Sebastian in act 3. Sorry on phone, no link.

Yes, finding and stopping the murderers is important. And you know who would be better for that job than Sebastian? Literally anybody else. As next direct heir to the Starkhaven throne, his responsibility is to stay alive, not to dick around in amateur espionage, or tag along with mercenaries.

Taking matters into his own hands shows that the Vael family is not to be toyed with, especially with personal matters. People would expect Sebastian to least hire mercenaries like anyone else would, but that he himself (along with future Champion of Kirkwall) would strike terror into the nobility, and no one would dare to strike the Vaels again. Him sending a bunch of meercenaries and wasting resources that can be used on the city would be a waste.

There is also another vital point. Even after Anders commits an act of terror and ends up being dead and you side with the circle, Sebastian says that you can't blame mages as a whole.

I would love to find out how Sebastian's story finished. He's pretty cute, and a good guy, so running into him in the next game would all good.

Made a Fem Hawke (1st female character in many years). Rival romance with Sebastian, killed Anders, sided with Templars -> Prince of Starkhaven + Kirkwall viscount. Looking forward to Free March unification. Also made a Grey Warden + queen pair in DA:O.

... I'm sucker for political marriages... Hopefully the trend will continue.

I kind of hope Sebastian does return. He has a score to settle (particularly with my Hawke who saved Anders). Plus I would like to pay a visit to Starkhaven. I found the artwork in the World of Thedas quite intriguing.
