@Auld Wulf:

But that talk about micromanaging an entire army of husks is what makes me think that the nanites introduce some basic programming that allows it to carry out it's task. Husks in the past have attacked people (mainly Shepard) without a Reaper signal. Look at the uncharted planets in ME1 where husks are found. Would Sovereign actually care enough about a dozen husks to operate from halfway across the galaxy? And at the derelict Reaper, the Reaper is dormant, yet the husks still attack Shepard's squad

Now, some have pushed that husks are controlled, and that's fine. What's being overlooked, however, is that control is two way. I/O. You have the signal coming in, and the signal going out. What this means is that the Reaper is able to experience being an individual husk.

Not necessarily the worst idea, and it's relatively well reasoned by the rest of your post, but ultimately I think this comes down as speculation, largely because we have no proof that the husks send a signal back to a Reaper.

How on earth is it speculation? They control husks from half a system away or more with huge amounts of granularity. How are they going to achieve that with some form of I/O? This is robotics basics, right here. It's like expecting someone to fly a remote-controlled helicopter with their eyes closed -- but micro-managing an army of bipedal bodies is so much more complicated than that.

It's really not speculation if you think about it. Hence the 'let it percolate' statement.

Do husks blink? And if so, are the Reapers responsible for them blinking? Or do the husks automatically carry out that function for themselves?

The husks may be Reaper controlled, but it is never stated how many they can control at one time. Nor the range of their influence, nor if range and quantity of husks controlled have a relationship. These Reapers are based on the Levi's after all. Not the Rachni.

Command and control often works better when you allow the troops in question some autonmity. That's why I alway's set my Starcraft troops to "Return fire" mode. If I'm busy building a Starport and I'm caught flatfooted, the troops themselves will carry out a limited response to the stimulas.

I still find avoiding unneeded deaths positive, and unneeded killing negative. No one can convince me otherwise.

^ Some like myself would say that you have a strong moral compass with that reasoning...

And others would point out that he's oversimplifying the situation by leaving out key pieces of information...
