Why does Shepard still wear armor in ME2?

Or is it possible for our Sheps to run nearly naked on the field like SuZe?

Early request for ME3 right here: Bring back squaddie armor Bioware. You can't hide behind the "fans wanted it" excuse for this one. It's not an improvement, no one wanted it, it goes against the establiseh lore, and is just plain dumb and against common sense.

Shepard wears armor because he's an Alliance Marine. He wears a combat hardsuit.

Yes. And it might be only a precious few of these. According to Casey, the change between the different outfits will be "aesthetic".
So can we wear the catsuit with heels, the nipple clamp bikini, or the chest baring leather jacket? Or simply the Cerberus dress uniform? If our squaddies can survive the supremely deadly 22nd century battlefield without environmentally sealed hardsuits, why can't Shepard?

There are more outfits, but only that one has been confirmedArrtis wrote...
As some reviews said this game has been DUMBED DOWN.! I also heard some talk of only 1 extra outfit to unlock for each character doing their person quest.

They totally need to bring back Colossus X, it's not a real RPG if my squad can't all wear the same suit of armor

Am I the only one who has noticed that all the Squad members who don't appear to be wearing that much armor appear to be Biotic's, who are generally capable of generating Biotic fields to protect themselves? Plus there is also the fact that sheperd is a fully trained soldier, and the few that I have talked to feel far more comfortable going into or near combat wearing full armor, even when they are not actually expected/supposed to fight.

Guest-68: are squad member outfits merely alternative appearances or do they incorporate stat differences and/or research upgrades?
CaseyH-ME2: We found that the main attraction to customizing appearance was on your own character, and managing armor etc on all 10 squad members would be onerous. So we deepened the customizability of Shepard's armor so now you can do it piece by piece, and we made the appearance of your squadmembers more of an aesthetic choice that you earn by gaining their loyalty.
No armor for squadmates. Here's the answer. It should be re added in ME3 I like managing my squadmates and all that, I don't care if it's frustrating for some people.

I can only buy that unless we go to a world where we need full skin protection, due to no atmopshere or whatever, if they walk out in one of those areas wearing the regular clothes... well... i'll still play but I will be shaking my head.

It's not dumbed down. The armour system in ME1 was never good to begin with. It was just CompanyXgear III, IV, V, etc. and you could put in one or 2 little mods with passive bonuses. I don't call that a real armour system.Arrtis wrote...

In ME2, on the other hand, you DO get a better armour system for Shepard. They just decided not to bother with it for squadmates any more.
I see it as an improvement. I didn't like having to put stupid pink armour on Wrex just because Phoenix IX happened to be better than Titan VII. It's a clunky, useless system. Most of the armour for the alien squadmembers looked the same anyway, just with different colour schemes.

People seem to think that they couldn't have just improved the system from ME1, when, in reality, a less detailed system similar to the one we get for Shep should have be do able. (Disclaimer: I'm not I dev so I have no idea how difficult it would have been, but I strongly believe this feature needs to return in ME3)

The tailor ran out of magic material just before he finished Shepard's set. Dang the bad luck.
Magic underoos let you run around virtually naked on wolds that have no atmosphere and at -300 degrees quite comfortably and provide moderate protection against bullets, lasers, melee attacks, ect.

Thank god you werent in charge during ME1s release.
If something cant be criticised because Bioware did it, all their so called "improvements" for ME2 would be pretty sparse. Itd just be "YOU DONT GET TO CHOOSE!"
