I will also miss the armor and weapon customization from the first game. In my play throughs of ME1 my squad seldom ended up in the same armors but the ones I felt fit them best. I also liked being able to fine tune the upgrades for each squad member. Wrex’s Geth Armory suit was for up close brawling while Garrus’s high hardening and shields allowed him to snipe from the back with impunity. I also liked customizing my weapon load outs with high accuracy for squad members with low skill and high damage or rate of fire for the more proficient ones. I will wait to see how the new system works before lobbying for the return of the original in ME3, but I will admit at the moment I am a somewhat bummed at the change.

Well, that case it's almost like an Apple product. You won't get to choose which fit them best, the company will have chosen for you. I am sure they will fit the characters combat style, though.

And you will be able to customize weapons somewhat. You can choose which to equip your team with before you go on a mission.

I don't really mind the lack of customisation (although I would have enjoyed it if it was implemented), but I agree with those who are concerned with a distinct lack of sensibility in the outfits we HAVE seen. Does break quite heavily with the fantastic-but-believable style in the first game. Ultimately however, it is a minor concern as there's lots of other things about ME2 that seem to be amazing, but I think it's also up to us as consumers to give critique on what we do and don't like, and on that note, I would have preferred more solid npc armour design. Meanwhile, all we can do is hope they take note of this for ME3.

Lets's wait until we actually see the NPC armor before we start demanding anything for ME3.

As I said, I was going by what has been shown in combat as it is. The fact that it has been shown like that in combat (and is made for it, judging by the weapon slots on the back for all of those outfits), is nothing like what we've seen in ME1. Even if it does upgrade into something better, it's still a slight step down from what used to be in my opinion.

I understand what you're saying, but I really think they've been trying to keep this stuff under wraps. Only time will tell, but I expect to see some more variety when details start to leak out.

Agreed. For some things ME2 seems to have a much more cartoonish sensibility than the first game.

If squaddies don't need armor, why does Shepard still bother with that stuff?

Or is it possible for our Sheps to run nearly naked on the field like SuZe?

Early request for ME3 right here: Bring back squaddie armor Bioware. You can't hide behind the "fans wanted it" excuse for this one. It's not an improvement, no one wanted it, it goes against the establiseh lore, and is just plain dumb and against common sense.

Not true, I'm fine with it.

I've only read the first page of comments, but why is everyone freaking out that you won't be able to equip armour on your squadmates? Where does it say this? I have yet to see a dev say that our squadmates CANNOT wear armour. All they are confirming is that there are aesthetic outfits you can equip your squadmates with. Probably OVER your armour. So while SZ is rocking heavy duty armour, she looks like she has nippleclamps. Which, while more unrealistic, solves both the aesthetic outfit and armour problems.

I wasn't here when it was speculated, but if i would have been, I would have wanted it to be implemented.
I think the squadmembers armor(or lack thereof) should reflect their personality, like the character acually chose what to wear. And I will wait until I've gotten to know the characters before judging if their outfits.

They don't need different armors, Shepard does all the work anyways. My adept armed with a pistol did everything even on insanity. I'm sure they are more than just outfits. I think Grunt will absorb a lot more hits than Miranda.

I like it.  i think it fits with the individuality of the characters and prevents me from having to "manage" a dozen or so loadouts for the whole squad.  I also hope Shep can go with a more casual outift now as well.

What is the point in becoming a zombie cyborg if you can't flaunt your new found indestructability by wearing a hawaiin shirt into a gunfight?

Considering the cinematic nature of the game and the sci-fi setting, I can't say that I'm entirely surprised by the decision to veer on the romantic when it came to design *shrug*

I quite like the idea personally. Some people really just need to relax. Believe me, Miranda's choice of footwear really isn't the end of the world, nor is it Bioware's attempt to personally insult thousands of people.

But we can't wear a hawaiian shirt. That's the point.

Or dress up as a mime. Or a leather daddy. Or a clown.

Why can't we cheese it up like our squaddies are doing, Bioware?

I imagine something like that will be the eventual dev reply.

"Don't take it so seriously, geez! This is supposed to silly, cheesy, sexy fun! It's not supposed to be realistic."

I kinda like the concept of the squaddies having a more unique look to them, though in some cases *coughSuZecough* I have to question the practicality of the look chosen.

I'll also miss the option to customized them a bit more that various armors would add, especially since by all accounts armor can do much cooler and varied things than in ME1.

Though there's quite a large difference between including subtle romantic elements, and going full-on grindhouse for kicks and giggles.

On that note, if this has pissed you off so incredibly, I'd advise you steer clear of Bayonetta ;p

Well, the outfits do look pretty good, the only problem I can see is if they are in a vacuum and SuZe is walking around half naked. They probably have an armor set for that purpose though. And I'll miss having my squad in matching armor D:

i would argue that because he wore armor in the first one he should wear it again in the second (and third) games. also, what trailers have you been watching? squaddies ALL wear armor...and it completely goes with the established lore...

In the form it was implemented in the original, was it really a "great RPG element"? I personally always found it hard to picture a spectre picking up every bit of vendor trash he could get his hands on during a mission. However sound a mechanic it is in standard fantasy-fare, here, it probably isn't.

Alright look, the ones who don't wear armor are lets see Miranda, Jack, Mordin, and Thane. The others look to be wearing armor to me, sure they may be a bit more sexy in some respects, I'm looking at you Samara. However, it isn't that huge a deal to me, I've only just learned about the removal of an inventory system, which I find mildly upsetting but I can agree with some of the points, even I thought it was odd the person I just eviscerated catapulted something into my inventory before phasing out of existence thanks to the ammo I was packing.

Now then, Shepard looks bad ass in armor, there's just no denying it, so who cares if the others get magical benefits that keep them from wearing armor. I'm happy MY Shepard will get to wear whatever armor he wants and charge in like the Vanguard he is. I'll start picking apart every last little detail I dislike about the game once its in my hands, rather than try to get it out here right now and QQ as it were, which while being very intelligent in your arguments Mox it sounds just like QQ there's no armor for my squad mates. Lets allow their heads to explode when I explore planets without oxygen, at least it'll be fun to watch. :P
