Also, remember that we haven't seen those aesthetic choices that your squaddies get. They might potentially be awesome. Although I would at least like matching colours. But the customisation of your own armour is really, really good.

what kind of question is that anyway - should he go naked?
Why not? Maybe he's got some awesome tattoes to show off too.

What makes you think the squad members don't wear armor? Samara has been shown wearing what looks like a full suit of heavy armor. We've seen almost none of the outfits. I am sure many of them will be armor.
Shepard wears armor because he's an Alliance Marine. He wears a combat hardsuit.
*SPOILER WARNING*--Actually, the Alliance has written him off as dead seeing as how you DO die in the beginning of the game so TECHNICALLY, he's not an Alliance Marine anymore--*SPOILER WARNING*

YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT THERE ARE NOT ALTERNATIVE OUTFITS WITH AN ARMORED APPEARANCE.
Jesus.
And do you know something?
I think we've been shown pretty everything about game design and Casey Hudson said that there will be only one alternate outfit for each squadmate, story relatead at that. We've seen SuZe's black vest in FFTL and Miranda's black outfit in the Launch trailer. Nothing like a hardened/powered Space Marine suit.
I took it for granted, that the squadmates will go armored in the actual game's combat. But it really seems I've been a little naive. And it's about time to start panic for us Starship Troopers adherents (I mean the book).
Aaah, as always #2 got more cheezy and cornballish to appeal to the "general audience", to earn a bigger buck... and sent the good, unique, outstanding features of #1 down the sewers in the process.

A little off topic, but i totally agree with this statement, and not just in reference to ME2, but to IP's in general. It is really rare to find any sort of series whether books, movies, games, or TV, etc where sequels live up to their potential. You find that more often than not creators have, and I can't think of any other way to say this, so little respect for the IP's they create that they are willing to do just about anything if they feel it will bring them a few more dollars in sales.
Prior to really starting to follow the development and info releases regarding ME2 I was holding out hope that this would not be the case with BW. I'm rather disappointed at many of the directions BW has taken. I still trust the game will be really good, the improved combat and general mechanics of the game seem really solid but the overall direction and story of the game fall very nicely into the realm of "do anything to appeal to the general audience".

You are just a core fan and not important compared to the power of the casual gamer.
The casual gamers ARE the new core fans.
The game needs to be made as disposable and generic as can be in order to attract them. As derivative as can be, so there's no pesky learning curve from MW2 or Gears of War. Meet the new game, same as the old game.

So you call mass effect 2 generic? Give me one reason more than these armor changes, that makes this generic.

I'll give you three:
1) Generic regenerating Call of Duty health
2) Derivative Gears of War cover system
3) Generic shooter limited ammo with associated scrounging off dead enemies

You forgot:
4) Ultra-generic low health warning, they might as well have added "GET TO COVER, IDIOT!" blinking on the screen.
5) Generic loading screens instead of the elevators with their epic news items and conversations.
6) Generic Autoequip thing
7) And a filthy scene of sex with a tridactyl alien for dessert.

You wanted proof, here it is:
Guest-68: are squad member outfits merely alternative appearances or do they incorporate stat differences and/or research upgrades?
CaseyH-ME2: We found that the main attraction to customizing appearance was on your own character, and managing armor etc on all 10 squad members would be onerous. So we deepened the customizability of Shepard's armor so now you can do it piece by piece, and we made the appearance of your squadmembers more of an aesthetic choice that you earn by gaining their loyalty.
No armor for squadmates. Here's the answer. It should be re added in ME3 I like managing my squadmates and all that, I don't care if it's frustrating for some people.
He actually makes a good point. Fitting all 10+ members would be kind of tedious and difficult, not to mention you would need 4 race specific armors.
Not to mention how dumb Jack would look in N7 armor.
