Down in Dust Town in Orzammar, there's a merchant, Alimar.  In his Inventory there is a Remarkable Malachite (I think it is).  I buy it for the painful price of several gold and change.  HOWEVER, as soon as I step out to the Orzammar Commons (where you can swap party members), when I open Inventory to give the gem to Shale as a gift, it's gone.

Several gold is nothing to sneeze at in this game, so it's quite a pain to part with that much money and get absolutely no utility out of it.

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this glitch.
