yep, the new GTX 780 has arrived. What do you think? Anybody got it? I want it. But holly sh!t it's pricey. But still  like 350 bucks less than the Titan and bassically the same expierence.

90% of the Titan's gaming performance for 65% of its price. Sounds nice.

The question is will it hold a candle vs a 2x ~300 bucks GPU SLI/CfX setup?

Just a question, is there even anything that could use that to its full power? I don't think there's games that do that yet. I do have to say that I appreciate how Nvidia always manages to make a an affordable version of the powerful stuff that still manages to perform very well. That is precisely the reason why I chose them over AMD.

I would get it if I could but I have no idea if I can use it to its maximum potential with my current setup, I think I could but its still a bit expensive.

I have the feeling that I'm going to say to myself "lol, that's way too f*cking expensive." and then have one shipped by Tuesday.

As is my way.

That review isn't totally accurate. The 780 has 3gb of ram, not 6. In addition, the boost over 680 is impressive, but I was expecting a little more for the $100 bump over the top of the line 680 from EVGA.

That said, the new ACX cooler EVGA made for the 780s is sexy as fffffuuuuu. I'm waiting for them to release the price and clocks for the FTW addition to see if I'd buy one.

You could always go with a 3 monitor setup, 5760x1080 is one hell of a resolution.
But honestly, there may be very real use for this in the near future. With the new consoles having 8gigs of unified ram to use, developers will be able to create higher resolutions textures and have more textures on screen than they've ever had before, and with PCs lacking unified memory and affordable graphics cards lagging well behind in total ram, you're going to need raw power and speed to muscle past those limitations.

Apparently when people say pc building is cheap they're decidedly not talking about buying graphics cards like this.

If I had the space, I would, I don't have the space for 3 monitors nor do I have the money. I hope I won't have to get something with more VRAM, I don't want to upgrade so soon, but currently I only have 2GB.

Well yeah, this is total overkill for anything most gamers will be doing. For a little over 300 you can pick up a 670 that will be just fine for gaming at good FPS on a 1080p set up. But this beast is for multi moniter set ups at higher res and crazy FPS. Also, with 4k coming up the extra ram will be needed.

@Filament, Yes. I say that GC models between Nvidia GT(s-x) 400~600 are good enough. (currently I have GTS 250)

I was gonna buy it to replace my GTX 680 until I saw the price tag.

I never thought I'd say this, but I guess I'll wait for it to drop a bit.

Building a PC IS cheap.

Building one that can run Crysis 3 or Battlefield 4 with all graphics options turned to max isn't.

I don't know if it's worth it over SLI at this price. I have two GTX 670s and from comparing benchmarks they outperform even the Titan, and just under the 690. I got both for $600 on sale so they were cheaper, as well.

You should just get another 680 it will net you a much larger performance gain.

I tried SLI and Crossfire once, actually twice for Crossfire.

Never again.

Why? When did you try it?

I got mine about 6 months ago. It works like a charm, most of the time. There was one game where I experienced texture shimmer, but they patched it and now everything works great.

Sigh, the feeling when you bought 2 titans superclocked just a month ago, should have waited but was in a hurry, best to forget it never happened besides 780 is almost half the price where i live and sounds like a great card.

Its beautiful, but I'm waiting to see the price of the 770. Assuming its about $400, I'm probably just going with that. Still a big leap from my current 570.

If the 770 is more like $500 I'm probably gonna hold off longer and just save up for the 780. If the 770 doesn't have the titan cooling that will give me extra incentive.

With that price tag Ill just wait to see what the new console price will be and what they're capable off before upgrading my ''Old'' 570 GTX (2 years already !) which actually play every game at the best setting still.

650 $ that's 150 more munchies than the 680 at release ? It's a bit overkill if you ask me. Those price will drop very fast anyway. The market demand it. The 500 series is discontinued already so they have no reason to NOT drop these price.

My bet ? The price will drop a lot close to the release of the new console and will get back to normal.

I myself will be looking to save up some money for christmas, around 50-75 bucks per month is the stacked goal so that I get up to 500 bucks by that time. Then I'll be taking a loong look at the GTX 770 and at the supposedly this year coming ATI HD 9000 series. The HD 9970 looks terrific from the leaked specifications (if true) and unless ATI is aiming with that card to fill the same price slot as the GTX 780 it is most likely going to destroy a GTX 770 in performance for relatively little increase in price if I gauge ATI's pricing habits correctly.

Would probably need a new PSU though, but hey, what's christmas for?

Not that I particularily need a new GPU, my GigaByte GTX 660Ti OC is going to be more than enough. Maybe I'll just extend the saving time until the GTX 800 series comes around and then do a radical all-over on my rig.
