[Question for DA:O Writers] What's it like to be controlled by a bloodmage?

I was just wondering what the in-world experience of being controlled by a bloodmage would be like? Does the person being controlled know what's happening? Do they black out? Enter a trance/dream-like state? Something else? Also could a blood mage make someone kill themselves? I'm just wondering because I can't remember hearing about this in-game (and have yet to build a bloodmage) and I'm curious about it because it could provide for some interesting material for mods/fan fiction.

Thanks,
Joseph

Reading the thread title I thought you were implying the writers of DA:O must be controlled by blood mages. Ok, maybe I need a coffee. And to stop playing for a while.  LOL

David Gaider, puppet of the blood mages. I just spat coffee all over my k/b again! For the 3rd time in the last couple of weeks.

I hope the writers enlighten us. It's an interesting question.

Puppet of the blood mage?

David Gaider is the blood mage! Sheryl and Mary are his "professional Minions", after all, cursed to scribe in his shadowy... shadow.

Nah, not true. The person who wrote Hespith's chant - they're the real blood mage, pulling the strings, lurking in the shadows and terrifying the rest of us.

On topic: I'd imagine that they'd be aware of what was happening, but there isn't really anything to go on ingame that would let us know. Or, not that I've noticed anyway.

At least now I know that the next time I feel the urge to neglect my RL responsibilities and play DA:O for hours on end, I can just recite the Litany of Adralla. Problem solved!

Speaking purely from personal preference, I'd hope that they'd not be aware. I find mind control is far scarier when the controlled believes they're acting of their own volition until the control is broken.

I'm glad my phrasing of the question could provide laughs... perhaps it will also keep this thread alive long enough for the writers to break free from their overlord's mindcontrol and tell us what it's like. ;)

Best Wishes,
Joseph

Preference, not experience. :P

Though... I wouldn't know if my preference matched the reality.... :?:crying:

LOL - I did misread that... sorry, I had just read that "I have personal reasons for wanting to know about pregnant shape-shifters" thread and backed out slowly.

Though now I'm wondering if the reason I always have my hubby's food ready when he comes home is less because I'm awesome and more because of a nefarious plot...

So your husband is a blood mage? *snickers* And he uses his powers to get meals served? *snickers more*

What a waste, hehe.

I don't need blood magic to get male friends to do the cooking (I hate cooking and am perfectly happy to offer other things in exchange).

*giggles at the thread title* However, this is an interesting topic, and I too am curious to see what the writers have to say about it.

I just added another question about this: Can a blood mage make someone commit suicide?

Hmm... depends if Blood Magic actually simply controls minds or actually controls the bodily functions of the target...

But with most games I'm willing to bet no, or at least you get a check to see if you can resist it.

I think the blood mage manipulates the blood of the vitcim and not necessarily his mind / spirit. So it would seem like the victim would still be conscious, but his body would be manipulated against his will. Unless of course manipulating the blood also leads to the manipulation of organs, in which case the mind would also be controlled. Sounds like a pleasant experience.

As far as I can tell, from at least reading of it in the DA books and how they reference it in the game, it's a form of mind control. As Ulicus wrote, the blood mage's magic alter's the victim's perception of reality, making the controlled think that they are doing everything willingly.

Sinsational,

Very interesting... so the victim enters a dream-like state where the bloodmage controls their perception of reality... that makes for all sorts of interesting possibilities. I'll still wait for official confirmation, but if this is true I like this as a mod/adventure possibility more and more.

Thanks,

Joseph

This is it. Someone who is under the control of a blood mage is having their body controlled but not their mind. They are trapped in their body, unable to speak or act, and could indeed be forced to kill themselves -- there is no such thing as a "save vs. charm" idea.

This fact is not really consistent, however. There is evidence of some blood mages having the ability to exert influence over someone's mind -- almost a form of hypnosis, really, where the target is not controlled so much as they earnestly believe what the blood mage wishes them to believe. This is probably a seperate power from the normal ability to just control someone outright, and not simply a spell they can whip off on a moment's notice.

You can read that as "I'm leaving my options open", if you like. Image IPB I'd like to get into a more complete exploration of what blood mages are capable of in the future -- not the least of which is the summoning of demons. Ultimately I think it's a difference of a regular mage who's exploring blood magic and one who's dedicated and has researched the possibilities. Even so, either way I think you can see why regular people might find this idea very frightening, and the idea of a blood mage gaining access to a someone in a position of power very threatening. Blood magic isn't inherently evil, but the temptation to do evil when you have the power to bend others to your will must be insidious.

So Blood Magic atually gives full, 100% control of bodily functions then?

I can see why it's regarded as dangerous...
