I also agree that Kaiden and Ashley were rather boring.

I'm sure that the new human characters will be more fleshed out.

Hey! classic poetry references in sci-fi are brilliant!

Kaiden has an interesting backstory, poor execution. Ashley had some pretty good moments, though.

in all honesty, i think it was bad to put the relgious person and the "out for ourselves" person into one character, gave people to many excuses to come up with all kinds of bad mouthing; but it really was that stupid "Drop and give me 20" line in the Romance scene that made me not want to have anything to do with her

Yeah, I feel that way too. Every character has flaws, but Ashley was just one big flawed mess. All the little things added up to the worst character in Bioware history. Religion, poetry, the hate for aliens (yes I know it's not racism, shut up) an ugly face, constant crap-talk about kicking or kissing asses, and of course the annoying backstory about how her daddy was never there and she had to raise her sisters, and how she taught them to be violent against men who didn't take a hint.

Kaidan, on the other hand, was a brilliant character.

Kaidan I found rather bland. I didn't exactly hate him, but I didn't see much reason to like him either.

Ashley though... The religion was fine, and the humans first attitude was ok with me too.

But the poetry... The goddamned poetry! If anyone spouts poetry in ME2, we better get a punch interrupt option.
