I didn't know you could romance Alistair as a dwarf! I think that would make me laugh the whole time... (no major offence to dwarves!).

Thanks for all the discussion - honestly didn't think my thread would go beyond the first few posts. It has turned out more interesting than I expected.

I just finished the game (after having been dumped) thinking that he would give in and marry me at the post-coronation scene, but alas no. So am now going back to see if I can become mistress... off to fight the end battle yet again ;)

I suspect my elves of going to get a box to stand on every time they kiss, so I find the dwarf notion pretty funny too.

I like romancing him as a dwarf - then he's as tall to my PC as I am next to my husband LOL

You do hear a Gossip at some point where people are saying "why don't they make this Grey Warden the queen?" I heard that on my first city elf run. But, just because a few of the common people might say that doesn't mean the nobility would accept it, or that it wouldn't cause great turmoil. Obviously a player may or may not cotton on, but I think a person growing up in that culture would read the tea leaves and know that if you romance the future king as a commoner or elf, chances are you're going to lose him in some fashion, assuming both of you even survive.

Well, I have to disagree with that about the PC being the one non-human the nobility "might" accept. Denerim Alienage, anyone? The racism thing is pretty clear throughout the game based on how people respond to elves on the whole, but eh, people can believe what they like. *shrug* I think based on reading the prequel books however, that it just wouldn't fly given the Katriel/Maric relationship (even Katriel brings up the issue).

Possibly, though I've romanced Ali on a dwarf as well (he said he couldn't marry my dwarf noble because she wasn't noble).  Still, he should have given the PC that bit of information, especially when he tells her he actually thinks she should make him king.

This comic does a fantastic job of showing the humor in a dwarf romance with Alistair. Had me giggling the whole time. Be sure to read all four pages!

The thing that upsets me about the dumping isn't the lack of hints that it will happen (because there are at least two points during the relationship where he heavily, heavily implies that his being king is doom for your relationship) but the content. It's such a slap in the face for him to be all "Yeah, that whole joining ritual you were forced to do so you can save the world? It makes you worthless to me as a woman, since suddenly having a child to share the burden I despise is all that matters to me now." At least he seems genuinely regretful (his epic sadface during that scene was the only reason I was able to re-romance him).

I think it would be unrealistic for you to be able to name yourself Queen at the Landsmeet if you're not a human noble, but I also think it's iffy that you get to name yourself Queen if you ARE a human noble. Granted, you have the power at that moment, but it seems like someone would politely point out that it doesn't seem to be entirely on the level that you can waltz in, kill the regent, and then take the thrones for your boyfriend and yourself. I mean, not even Bann Loghain Lover objects?
