The title of this topic was a poor choice IMO. It basically reads: I don't like the ammo system. Who else doesn't like the ammo system? Oh and BTW though the opposing opinion is welcome to post here because we can't stop you, those of us who dislike the ammo system are so steeped in our opinion that the ammo system sucks will either not listen to the opposing argument or ridicule you for your point of view.

Yep. And those people aren't really here to debate. They are just here to have their own opinions validated.

Hahaha give it up, neither side is willing to debate.

One side seems dead set on the changes being awesome and won't admit any failing.

The middle is wait and see (who add **cking nothing to the debate)

And the "other" side is against the game turning to a generic shooter ammo system instead of FIXING (yes the original system was FLAWED) the old more unique system.

The whole infinite ammo thing actually took away from the RPG modding mechanic. It seems that most people just got mods to keep their weapon cool instead of actually using various mods to give them different effects in battle.

The only time I went with something other than the perfect cooling method was when I was turning my Sniper Rifle into a mass accelerator cannon of high explosive death. Which was pretty much the only SR configuration that you could no scope with a high success rate.

well i would always mod frostblind with scram rails because of the decrease in firing rate i couldnt get overheated...sometimes you cant help it...im guessing with the sniper rifle you did explosive? i found snowblind gives the same damage bonus.*never did sniper so dont know if the assassinate ability does some kind of explosion*

For my last two runs, which I did a Vanguard and Vanguard NG+, I've been using the Shotgun exclusively. I use Frictionless Materials + Scram Rail with Sledgehammer Rounds.  Hits with a punch and stops life regen.

I will use my pistol as a back up for fighting Krogan's for the final 1/10th of their health. That is a double Scram Rail setup with Polonium Rounds.
So that way the killing rounds KILLs and burns away the Immunity spamming Krogans the first time before they have a chance to die and come back to life for the 5th ****ing time.

I prefer the ammo system like this. It's more fun, if you ask me. I think they should have made a hybrid between waiting, 10 seconds or so, to cooldown or manually reload.

I really, really like this idea. Make heat sinks rarish to find, and give a player the choice in battle to make the quick reload choice (that is limited to the amount of sinks you have) or to wait for the cooldown. Would add a new element to combat that I think would be very interesting (judging only from my ME1 experience, can't nail the sequel until I've experienced it).

How about getting a set amount of ammo and clips in a fight but when the fight is over it all resets?

Christina Norman claims they explored this and other options. For some reason, the most generic system imaginable won out.

Another uncalled for change for the sake of change. They could have just limited the cooldown mods that allowed you to fire endlessly. All the changes between ME1 and ME2 will feel jarring. It will not feel like a coherent scifi universe.

Seriously, there was no logical reason for them to cut the passive cooling system out completely making it so you cant use your weapon...

Completely retarded.

I think the massive movement to shooter sucks honestly but ill still play the game and then post my opinion after the fact.

Im sure the same 20 shooter fans from old forums will be here telling me and thousands of others we wrong in their attempts to deflect to oncoming outcry from Biowares REAL CUSTOMER BASE.

Said before, say again, I predict ME3 will fall somewhere between ME1 and ME2 because they gone to far shooter in ME2 from all indications.

I don't care. I never thought Mass Effect's combat was particularly good.

Is that so? So every single change from ME1 to ME2 is going to be
unpleasant, and where are your sources for that outlandish claim...
hmm?  Honestly if you truly believe that then why are you here? There's
a very clear difference from being skeptical of certain changes to being rabidly afraid of any form of change. And you my friend would appear to be in the latter group. It seriously sounds as though the only thing that bioware could do to please you is make ME1.5 and honestly if I wanted that sort of stagnation between two games i would go play halo. /rant

It does suck.

1. No passive cooldown = no sense from the in-game point of view.
2. Unlimited ammo = unique gaming experience. Limited ammo + health regen = CoD in space.

Hybrid system would be the best.

Yep! Instead of retconning the lore they should added additional dimensions to the combat scenarios that would have made them equally "thrilling", "exciting", "suspenseful" etc.  as this new system purports to be.

There is no ammo. All weapons (except heavy weapons) have the same method of ammunition It uses a solid block of metal inside the gun. An internal computer shearesoff a microscopic piece of metal (Be it Tungsten, Polonium, Incendiary, Cryo etc...) and fires it using a mass effect field accelerator.

In Mass Effect, the weapon uses a cooldown system to relieve the heat that builds up from firing the weapon. All the heat is trasferred to the Heat Sink located in the gun (The Heat Sink is located in the same area where the ammo clip on today's FAMAS Assault Rifle is.)

In the Mass Effect 2 Demo, Bioware had method of 'reloading'. The reloading method made Shepard hit a button on any gun (that wasn't a Heavy Weapon); that button exposed the Heat Sink and immediately cooled down the weapon's Heat Sink so that it could be used faster. This method was scrapped by the designers.

Now in Mass Effect 2, the weapons have been upgraded to an M8 variant. The ammunition system remains the same, but instead of waiting for the Heat Sink to cool down, or ejecting the Sink to cool it down, the game uses Thermal Clips. The Thermal Clips are replaced by hand much like reloading a FAMAS Assault Rifle. So now, if you run out of Thermal Clips you won't be able to fire the gun until you find more.

Also, Thermal Clips can be used on any weapon (except Heavy Weapon) regardless of where you aquire it from. For example, if you need Thermal Cips for the Assault Rifle and you pick up Thermal Clips from a Mercenary's Pistol, they are compatible and you can use your Assault Rifle again.

...I know... I'm a Mass Effect nerd...

Just anecdotal, but I have to say it really feels like you folks are the 20 fans who don't like the new system, and the people who are fine with it are the thousands of others.

game designers, specifically bioware, generally tend to know how to design a game better than people who are not game designers. coughhhhh

I like it but I think it makes no sense that a gun dosen`t cool down, EVER, after a long period of disuse except if a heatsink is put in it.

If this "improved" system had been in place, Shepard wouldn't have found the marines still alive on that rachni infested listening post world.

Shepard having to use ammo must be one of those "upgrades" curtousy of TIM. I think everyone else in the Galaxy still has unlimited ammo.

Of course, if the new cooling system has been implemented because the small arms are now an order of magnitude more powerful, its possible that 400 rounds out of a new AR is equivalent or better to the 4000 rounds an old model had.  Maybe the marines would have cleared the Rachni themselves if they had the new guns
