Something I never understood is how some parents get upset at the nudity/cursing/violence in games and the game clearly has an M rating. Games arent just for kids anymore. But the same parents will let their kids look at an R rated movie.

Welcome to the age of unaccountability. It is always someone elses fault for why something happens not their own.

Nudity in games is unnecessary

Lack of nudity is also unnecesary.

It boils down to simple economics:
A) How many people would NOT buy the game, strictly because there was no actual nudity?
answer: None.

B) How many people would NOT buy the game, strictly because there _is_ actual nudity?
answer: as many as are under parental control where the parents object to their children seeing nudity, PLUS any adult prudes.

Since following B would have cost BioWare/EA _some_ sales, while following A would cost them _no_ sale losses, it was decided to go with A.

And true to form in this warped society, the sex scenes get censored while gratuitous violence remains, untouched.

Fortunately, there's a mod for that...

Why is it, though, that anyone who deigns not to see a sex scene is considered a prude? I'd rather not have sex in my games. I play games to destroy, not to make love. That's what porn is for.

Well I certainly *hope* you don't watch porn to destroy...

And as far as being a "prude", it always depends on the audience.

At this point I could go on a HUGE rant about internet standards and reflections on human psychology, but somehow I think that would get... boring.

Nudity is a real "buzz word" in video games, due to lawsuits of ignorant parents.

That, and "suggested nudity" lowers the age rating, thus more sales.

Suggested nudity is even worse, because it teases you and just makes you angry that you only saw sideboob, not actual boob.

theres this beastly group of people in the world called "mothers".
a mob of these creatures can be found outside of every gate of every castle housing every developement team that ever let just one "private" part be shown.
you see, these "mothers" are armed with incredibly powerful weapons known as "lawsuits". Developers fear these "lawsuits" and will do everything in their power to avoid them.
Becuase of these efforts to avoid these apocolyptic weapons, sometimes in their effort to make the weapons' ammunition run dry, developers leave in other things that were completely unintended. these blurbs in developement are known as "glitches".
so if you want nudity in your game, or are bugged with the lack of realism, blame the "mothers" of america. good luck hunting them down, though, many have tried and fallen prey to their "lawsuits".

I lol'd... only because it's so true.

'Mothers' or parents in general for that matter don't pay attention, then when they see something they don't like they freak out. Of course that's not there fault though.  <_<

The game is already rated M (17+), so children shouldn't have their grubby hands on it anyway. The Morrigan suddenly throwing on a strapless bra for a sex scene did make me giggle a little. You see more of her when she's dressed.

As for the werewolves, I could see the clothes having been put on the wolves as a magical boon and thus not be too concerned that they aren't stark naked. It was a gift, per se, of the magic itself? I can at least find a reason for it, even if someone could probably pick holes all day in my reason.

Don't need the nudity, but also don't need the odd censorship (Morrigan as primary example). Like someone said before, I think, the sex scenes could have faded to black after the initial kissing and would have been fine.

What a strange thing to say.

When morrigan offers herself to you just say no. There you go, no sex in your game.

Hmmm....well, it does seem odd to have the old knickers on in a few scenes. But I sympathize with Bioware's market issues. The camera angles worked in the tent scene fairly well, I thought.

My fault for having spent some time doing historical reenactment, but the modern undergarments bothered me (actually, the men's aren't too far off some medieval examples, to be fair). Bras are a relatively recent invention. But it's fantasy, I suppose, or Morrigan would have fallen out of her mages robes in the first fight scene.

Ah, but then I miss out on a romance plot that I -would- enjoy. Not to say I avoid the current sex scenes, but I would if they had full-frontal nudity in them. I'm perfectly okay with a "fade to black" kind of deal, then skipping to the after-sex awkward conversation.

As a parent of a couple of teenage boys, I am appalled that BioWare feels the need to do the parenting for me. I can read that little "M" in the corner of the game and I immediately know that the game will not be played by my boys until they hit 18. Its offensive to me that there are parents who are outraged at a video game featuring a rating of M having mature visuals in it(GTA and the like).

Yes. Anyone who doesn't have exactly the same standards as you is a prude. Image IPB

Thats something reasonable to say!!!
That "sex" had really put me Image IPB lol
They cut the sex scenes, but they didn't cut the violence...
What's the point?
If it is to protect childrens, or themselfs from the parents, the box of the game has writen there "18+" or something tike that...
Now every body, is trying to make the games in small details the closest to the reality, so...
Is normal to see, in dark times, the lust, the robery, the violence, the blood scatered all arround during e after the battle, but...
Is not that common to see people making love, using underware... At least they could leave the socks too!!! lol
Sex is common in our society, if they game is for adults, they should treat sex as common thing and not cencured!
Or else, we're going to see more Funny scenes, when Morrigan in is normal cloaths, doesn't were bra, but when is about to have sex, it apears whit one...

Ok... They should release a  "Director's Cut" of the game, that brings a new scene, with Morrigan stoping the moment, to say: "hold on baby... i'm gonna put my bra, or else i can catch a cold..."
And the male caracter says: "I'm gonna put my white socks too..."

The explicit sex or nudity in a game, is not essencial to make the game good or bad, but at least don't do silly things like that lol

Treat nudity just as a normal thing!!! That's it...

Ps: Sorry about my english, it's been a long time since the last time I practiced

Sex is not as "common" as many of you apparently think, and to treat it as though it were merely a routine like eating breakfast or going to sleep would only serve to strengthen the support -against- nudity in videogames. To be honest, I don't see wy this is such a big deal. Why do you need nudity to be in the game? To satisfy a fetish? You have the same amount of story and romance without nudity as you would with nudity, but this way some people who find it offensive will not have to shelve the game or miss out on important, heartfelt subplots.

You can compare nudity and violence all you want, but they are hardly the same and should not be compared as such.

I think the comparison with nudity and violence is that violence seems accepted and almost encouraged in the media while the necessary and natural act of making love is so abhorent that it must be hidden from our poor eyes.

I would rather seen someone ******* than killing. Just as I would rather have my child eventually make love and not decapitate some evil schmuck.

I love how people want realistic nudity and grappling but why can't we get the nice awkwardness of sex scenes then? I mean lets be honest who many people really has perfect sex their first time with someone? :/

Actually, it would be quite sweet to see Alistair stumbling about, wouldn't it. And if the PC is experienced... that would be fantastic actually.

Sadly, games and movies have a long way to go to catch up to novels. I read a lot of books and most of them are not shy about the erotic moments. I find it adds depth and emotional sympathy/empathy that just isn't there in the absense of those scenes. If we can see characters getting mutilated, killed, or doing the killing why not show them making love? Seeing them in such intimate situations really opens up the character even more.

I guess for the same reason that games can depict torture and mass violence but never rape. >_> I"m against all censorship in general truth be told.

Though yes: Seeing Ali stumble about would be hilarious. It would be even more hysterical if the female PC was a virgin as well.

Thankfully, through the use of mods you can quite easily transform your game into true 18+.

Since playing the game for the 8th time I have been fooling around with some mods and I have to say some of them are..hu-hum..interesting. ;-)

My Dalish was... my imagination went to fun and naughty places.

I am grateful for the adult oriented mods out there, especially the more explicit ones. People can call me a pervert all they want, but seeing these characters in these intimate situations have really made the moments in the game so much more powerful. I haven't even reached the endgame with these mods yet and I suspect I'll be a blubbering wreck because I have totally invested in these characters now (especially certain non-ritual endings).

So true.  If your like me and get totally involved with the story and it's relationships, then making love in your pyjamas can really mar the occasion. ^_^

i think they should either go all the way with it or not to do it at all, right now this half ****ed sex with underwear is pathetic, when i was watching that scene i felt incredibly awkward. if you are worried about ESRB rating why not just take them away completely or change the camera angle to avoid certain body parts. it's not like people who play video games are all 12 year olds who has no clue what a boob is.do you really expect "features" like that would help you sell a M rated game? i'm not just talking about Bioware, can anyone name a single flat-chested female protagonist in any video games? cuz i sure hell can't lol
