Looking over the charachter we know, I notice that only charachters that do not have any form of biotics wear traditional, ME1-like armor.

This seems to reinforce the idea that Biotic Barrier "replaces" armor on biotic charachters.

Well the non biotics are at a disadvantage....thats why the soldiers and tech guys have courage and biotics are the supermen that lost constantly!Let them continue to fall.

Except for shep, it seems, because he's your main. But IIRC the devs said Biotic Barrier repalces shields for biotic charachters.

Dammit, I just realized Jacob was a biotic and he wears normal armor.. but none of the other biotic party members do.

No armor, only a few different outfits

Yes. And it might be only a precious few of these. According to Casey, the change between the different outfits will be "aesthetic".

So can we wear the catsuit with heels, the nipple clamp bikini, or the chest baring leather jacket? Or simply the Cerberus dress uniform? If our squaddies can survive the supremely deadly 22nd century battlefield without environmentally sealed hardsuits, why can't Shepard?

Am I the only one who has noticed that all the Squad members who don't appear to be wearing that much armor appear to be Biotic's, who are generally capable of generating Biotic fields to protect themselves? Plus there is also the fact that sheperd is a fully trained soldier, and the few that I have talked to feel far more comfortable going into or near combat wearing full armor, even when they are not actually expected/supposed to fight.

I brought that up on another Topic just over an hour ago. I am beginning to understand why everyone seems to dislike each other, due to possible conversation or idea theft.

It IS possible for two people to come to the same conclusion, especially in a circumstance like this.

These threads are so ridiculous. We have seen almost nothing about the actual outfits the squad will be in. People read "outfit" and they assume that can't mean armor. Why would Bioware do something the doesn't fit with the game universe? It doesn't make sense.

stop over analyzing this, Bioware made an obvious mistake removing armor for teammates. Less customization = less replay value. Hell Resident Evil 5 and GTA IV are more RPG in terms of weapon selection and clothing/armor customization.

It would seem that upon gaining biotics you also lose a good portion of your intelligence.

How often do you see soldiers today upgrading their armor and weapons mid-mission?

Holy thread necromancy Batman!

Oh, and by the way, as was pointed out: biotic Shepards still wear armor. As was not pointed out: Eclipse Vanguards still wear armor. There's no codex entry saying why biotics would suddenly not need armor to protect themselves after their barrier failed, so if the main character and non-party NPCs don't see armor as useless then why do the party NPCs?

Bah, humbug.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that perhaps the mass effect fields generated by the biotics are interfered with by armor. Sort of like why mages in fantasy settings don't wear armor either. Not neccesarily logical explanation but it fits perfectly in the 'Rule of Cool'.

And again you have Shepard's barrier and the barriers of the Eclipse Vanguards to explain. Why do they all, to a man, use armor while none of your barrier-projecting teammates use it? And why is their Health just as high as Shepard's when Health is largely the representation of armor?

For the same reasons Battle-Mages use armor. They sacrifice some of their power in biotocs for extra defenses. And of course again the Rule of Cool. The reason Shepard uses armor even as an adept is probably because giving the Adept a unique outfit would be too time consuming, and because it would be "unfair" for the other classes to not have a unique outfit then.

The minute you claim Rule of Cool for why one part of the continuity is different from another then you've already lost; RoC is only viable when it's to explain why the whole continuity behaves a certain way.

They wanted all of the characters to look unique in comparison to ME1. The biotic barrier instead of shields is nothing more than a gameplay mechanic.

Not true. Samara and Jacob's outfits both have armored portions. Jacob's suit in particular is probably all made of the same ballistic mesh that the recon hood is made of. It also has plates on the shoulders and upper arms.

I wouldn't be surprised if morinth's "commando leathers" and thane's jacket had ballistic components too.

Jack and Miranda look pretty unprotected though.
