Should I replay the original Mass Effect for a new save to import into Mass Effect 2?

I recently decided to replay the games in the Mass Effect series, but wasn't so sure about starting Mass Effect 1 all over again.  The main reason I would want to replay is to change some dialogue, although all of my choices would be the same as the other playthrough I am considering importing   Plus, I also want to be able to play and beat the games with their side quests and DLC before the middle of August, and am worried that I would not have enough time to play all three (playing about 3 hours a night maybe).  Should I replay the original Mass Effect, or just import the save with the same choices and alignment (Paragon) that I have in the other playthrough I am considering importing?

Of course. I just did the same myself and again ME1 proved how great a game it is.

A lot of that depends on how you feel about Mass Effect 1's story and/or combat.

If your choices will be the same, then changes in dialogue will not really matter so importing your current save would probably be the better choice.

Similarly if you are going to make the same choices and do not like the combat in ME1, then just import your current save.

However, if you like the combat or want to experience the story again, even though you know what choices you are going to make, then start a new game.

Each game will take you about 20 to 40 hours (or possibly more), depending on how much dialogue you skip and what difficulty you play on, how many sidequests you skip.

You can skip a lot of of the N7 missions in ME2 since they mean nothing; some have upgrades you may want. In ME1, some of the sidequests or fetch quests will have extra dialogue or war assets in ME2 and ME3, but may not be considered significant enough for you (personal preference). Also, you cannot go from level 1 to level 60 in one playthrough in ME1; level 50-59 import to ME2 will start you at level 3 in ME2. If you start a new ME1 game with an imported ME1 character that finished the game, you start with all your gear and level so you should be able to reach level 60 in that playthrough. Level 60 imports start at level 5 in ME2.

^ Again, all that is personal preference and may not have any actual real bearing on your decision to replay ME1 or not. It may depend on whether you prefer combat or story (or perhaps both) in ME1 and/or ME2.

So assuming 60 to 120 hours total, at three hours a night, it will take you 20 to 40 nights, possibly more, to replay the entire trilogy.
