What's the definition of "nuts" here?

While "sanity" doesn't clinically apply to an AI, I would say Shepard completely divorcing him/herself from what (s)he was is not good for one's outlook.  One of the reasons I would never pick control is that very question; how soon before the AI hubris kicks in and the entity that was Shepard comes to the same flawed conclusions.  After all, (s)he has unlimited power and no accountability or any relationship with any being.

Nut's is also a Poker term.

Sounds like a kick in the quad

It'd be more interesting to see how the people from the war act towards the reapers more than anything else. Which, of course, is also left up to the player. But I don't think everyone would just be cool with it right away. OR if someone else learns that Shepard harnessed the power of the reapers, and wants that for themselves, so they try to take control next.

Full on cycles? Tough to say. Destructive nature? Not that long.

Control forces a perspective on the galaxy without it's consent. Even in a best-case scenario, where every race is cooperative, the red flag is what happens during progression? The Catalyst cut off cycles before they could rival the Reaper's authority.

Would Sheplyst allow the races to make weapons that could threaten it's authority? How would it handle it? Have the Reapers peaked technologically? Have they become more powerful over the cycles or are they just 486s hitting Commodore 64s and something more powerful isn't that far off? Are they capable of upgrades? They need to keep an edge. What if the only course is destruction or indoctrination. How do other races respond to a destructive Reaper response to their progress? Sooner or later there will be destruction or enslavement.

It might not become a routine cycle for a long time.. but control as a concept is destined to fail. At least as a "happily ever after" ending. Synthesis at least tries to sell a galactic community in it together.. Control was better before the third-person monologue that didn't mention sending the Reapers into the sun.

ME4's new title, based on a canon ending of control

Police Effect!

best read while listening to the following

Starring Sheaper as "The Shreaper"

Also starring Liara T'soni as "Ditzy Love Interest"
Anderson as "Isn't he dead, OMG they cloned him"!

And special guest star Blasto as "Wanted a bigger part who can argue with a Shreaper for lead role"?

I have asked this question many, many times. The answer that I got most often was that Shepard will never crack. I only surprised that they didn't want to sell me a bridge.

Well, it's an operating system, more or less, not a human brain.

I dunno about you, but my operating systems usually don't flip out.

MIne does, but then again it is Vista. Surely the Reapers use something better than Vista.

Oh, jeeze, I'm so sorry.

Well, let's hope Shepard has a decent antivirus installed.

By doing what it was programmed to do instead of what its creators wanted it to do?

Never, because it is a shackled AI. Duh.

The Catalyst never went nuts. It followed its programming correctly.

It certainly never stopped following its poorly defined programming but its methods were rather awful. That's not really a good example.

If it's not Norton or McAfee, I think we'll be ok.

I don't think going nuts is the correct way to put it.

The question would be how long until the new Catalyst comes up with a 'solution', and I use that term loosely to a perceived problem, whether is by AIs, conflict/war, Krogan expansion, whatever.   Something that looks good to itself on paper but doesn't make a lick of sense in practice.

Yeup.  I just as much assumed thats what the OP meant by "nuts".  When giant lasers are firing down on cities, it's quicker to say than: "The Intelligence must have come to a conclusion that doesn't match up with our intended purpose for creating it!"

I'm sure one of the leviathans called it "nuts".  Or whatever the leviathan biological equivalent is.

5 minutes until it realize the catalyst original plan was the right one and proceeds to use the deceased Shepherds current knowledge of the galaxy to cause a rift in the galaxy to pick them off one by one. Sabotage the cure? Well there goes the Krogan support Saved Keiji's Greybox? Kasumi is now a prime target. Should've destroyed it when you had the chance. Those time capsules that Liara had plan well the Shepard A.I. Knows about it now. Oh and Shepard knows Liara is the Shadow Broker and she has her mini lair right on the Normandy. Just jewed your entire crew. There is no telling the damage Catalyst 2.0 could do to the galaxy with the Shadow Broker information. You handed the Galaxy best hope for survival to the Reapers.... Shepard.

What we saw in the endings is just all in Shepard's head. He died when he moronically grab those deathsticks. Shepard is the eyes and ears of the player in the world of Mass Effect so when he dies we can't see what happens after his death. In the next game all we going to see is how Shepard die or lived as a hero and how the rest of the galaxy defeated the Reapers without the Crucible by following Shepard's example in the eyes of the new hero who ever that may be.

If Shepard was a the pinnacle of Paragon and unified all the races together... we see the races band together to slowly whittle away the Reapers advances until the tides turned. Was your Shepard a Renegade Pragmatist? The Galaxy make brutal sacrifices to inflicted heavy damage to the Reapers Sacrificing entire Solar systems to destroy large swaths of Reapers at once.

Okay awesome delusion and wishful thinking over...

...nap time.

Deinon, you may want to look into Halo lore's concept of "rampancy" or gradual mental degredation of an AI.

They actually didn't. They said it wasn't a mistake and still served its purpose.

I never trusted control Shep. Seemed like a **** to me
But for that matter I didn't really love any of the endings. So I didn't pick any of them. I picked MEHEM. 'nuff said.
EDIT seems my descriptive word was blotted out. I didn't swear, but it seems that any reference to a World War 2 Axis political party is blotted out

My Shepard who chose control will never go nuts. He will become like the God Emperor of Mankind. Holy, pure, just, simply perfect in every single way.

You better start worshiping him now, or else he'll send Harbinger after your grandmother.
