Actually it sort of depends upon the Shepard how fast they go nuts. I'm doing a fun play through of #2 right now that's off to a dandy start with Kira. Kira is a nice Earthborn/Ruthless. You'd love her. She ran with a nice crowd on Earth. The 10th Street Reds. She was given a choice, in court, go to prison or join the Alliance military. She joined the military. I hadn't played her in a long time....

* Rachni queen alive? WTF?
* Wrex alive? WTF?
* Kaidan dead. check
* Romanced Liara check
* Council dead. check
* Anderson councilor check ... okay things are off to a swimming start.

#2

* Hi Helena, how are you doing? Working for Aria now.
* gives Batarian a taste of his own medicine.
* picks up Zaeed, goes and takes care of business... lets refinery burn. Vido's more important.
* Mordin... watches sick Batarian die... kills Batarians holding Daniel...
* helped the Quarians though just because she likes them more than volus and elcor.

Yep things are going quite swimmingly.

Now what ending to you want her to pick? Now remember if she picks synthesis each of you will have a part of her in you. Do each of you want a piece of evil inside? If she picks Control this will be the anthem: because she will take a more personal interest in what is going on. Shudder as you think about this. Destroy? We shall see. Or it may all end with LotSB.

I just finished Mass Effect 1 in my first ALL THE DLC IS OUT, TIME TO DO THE LAST RIDE OF ESPERANZA SHEPARD trilogy run.

(I say first because while I intend to do other Shepards, and probably even play the big girl again, this is the last-first-run knowing everything about how it ends up. Shush. It makes sense it me.)

For the lols, actually, I'm going to note she is also a earthborn who was given a choice of prison or military. And a sole survivor! And while I spent a lot of time misty-eyed as I tore around Mass Effect 1, I'm surprised by how much it seems like she's riding for a fall and a heroic sacrifice. I'm listening to the credits right now. I think I'm going to make dinner, then punch it right into 2.

I swear I had a relevant point with this. Anyway, despite a rather rocky start, my girl does get to a point where I feel comfortable leaving the Mass Effect universe in her capable (digital) tentacles indefinitely. So yeah. Depends on the Shepard! I agree.

It's interesting how that Sole Survivor and Ruthless are so different with Earthborn in the psych profile. The Colonist/Ruthless is in the long run the most dangerous and calculating, while the Earthborn/Ruthless the most psychotic, but since Kira got into the Spectres and passed the Alliance psych tests she's managed to hide it very well. Kira won't kick puppies, but she's not going to waste medigel on sick or wounded civilians. Svetlana (Colonist/Ruthless) would spare the medigel, even on a Batarian if she thought the Batarian could supply information.

Earthborn/Ruthless starts ME with a 25% bonus renegade. No self-sacrifice here. If control is selected it would not be to save the geth. :devil: Yeah, Jack, we could go pirate.

Based on that psyched profile, I would think assuming that if you HAD to take only the three "original" endings, your Shepard would go control.
I can see her rubbing her hands with glee with a "thought qoute"  - "Now, everyone who fracked with me, *its my turn.*" being her last thoughts as she fries herself.
And that being her last thoughts...

I do like crafting dramatically different Shepards from unlikely stories. My favorite backup emergency Shepard is a Ruthless Spacer, who tries hard to do the best job she can, but is risk adverse. Likes making wisecracks, though. Destroyed like the wind -- no sense in taking chances.

I try to make Shepards who could go in a lot of directions... Though now that Shepard's pretty much over, I may have to tighten their characters up a bit.

I will note one of my control Shepards is bad news, and will probably wind up resuming reaping at some point when things get out of his hands. It really depends, in my opinion, on how you want the story to end.

Svetlana is a destroyer. She doesn't trust anyone even herself, well she trusts Liara and Garrus, but that's about it. With the OEs she picks destroy.

And how do you know that? Unless it's actually in the game or the codex (it isn't) then you are just making up stuff.

Because a lust for power is an organic drive. An Artificial intelligence could not become corrupted by power, it literally does not make any sense that it could. How can power corrupt something that has no emotional drives or ambitions?

I'm afraid it's true. My headcanon is pretty much flawless. And best at everything.

Back on a serious note, I will say we're very limited in what we can really say about artificial intelligences. Computers have only been around for a few decades, which isn't enough to make certain statements about how they age.... But it's all we have.

If the "Super AI" directing the reapers is indeed a "clone" of Shepard's mind then it would be as corrupt as Shepard, right? So if Kira were to have ambitions of galactic domination before grabbing the handles....

I think that's rather the point of the difference between renegade and paragon control epilogues. It has Shepard's ... operating parameters, best as I can tell. Good and bad.

I kind of read it as Shepard's moral compass being slapped on the Catalyst, with his/her memories to give it context.

exactly! In fact I can even see Kiralyst ordering the reapers to build a synthetic body for her that she could "assume control" as Empress of the Council. I will show you true power.

Lust for power? Maybe.

Exploitation of superior power? Nope, not when it's following a set of necessary directives.

That was what I was getting at. While the quote wouldn't apply to the case of Shepalyst in terms of moral corruption, it might in logical corruption. Say the Reapers and the fleets of the galaxy were on equal footing. Now Shepalyst has to consider the opinions and morals of organics when making a decision, as upsetting them might reignite a war the Reapers aren't guaranteed to win.

But that's not the case. The Reapers are a far superior fighting force, and any resistance would likely be crushed swiftly. this would allow Shepalyst to make any decision that it believes to be the best and/or most efficient option, regardless of the morals or opinions of the rest of the galaxy. Since it would believe its solution is best, it would see these resisters as "the few" opposing the best possible outcome for "the many," and thus wouldn't have any qualms about putting down any resistance.

This, under the Kiralyst is very unlikely to happen. She would never allow such a condition to exist. Her army would use its powers of indoctrination to prevent such a thing by installing puppet dictators to head the governments of the various races.

"Assuming control of this form. I will deal with this personally."
"I will show you true power."

So long as my headcanon is a valid interpretation of events, comparable to that of others who may not share my opinions, the blues is safe.

That's my story, and I'm sticking with it.

Million years sounds about right, but by then humanity is either dead, evolved into a higher form, or have surpassed the Reapers in strength. You never know. :D

Oh and the whole absolute power thing: “It has often been said that power corrupts. But it is perhaps equally important to realize that weakness, too, corrupts. Power corrupts the few, while weakness corrupts the many."

But then you will need the reapers to prepare for the galactic collision with the Andromeda Galaxy M31 in 3.75 billion years, as if you'll really care. Your stars will have burned out. Your worlds will have become uninhabitable well before then. But before you go you will be begging us for ascension. Join me, and together we will rule the galaxy. lolz.
