This isn't like the Trolls thread this is a general observation. Taylor is for lack of a better term, very black which according to the ME mythos should be rare due to the blending or races that has occured because of Earths global government thing. Natural blonds are very rare as  well. I can only count in my head a few black guys in ME1 including Capt. Anderson but according to ME:Revelation he is also part Native American, which could also offset the skin pigmintation but his skin tone isn't that dark. So Jacob is something of a rarity.

Why should dark skin be rare due to mixing? Dark skin is apparant in a lot of ethnicities who have African roots. Americans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Domicans, he'll my bf who I joke looks like Jacob has Irish, Puerto Rican, and English blood but you would never guess just looking at him.



There's also the issue of you being able to pretty damn dark as well when you create your own Shepard, as well as pale as a redhead.

Hadn't thought about it before, but I suppose you (the OP) could be right. I also haven't read any of the novels. Is there any discussion about life on Earth during the time of the games? That could be interesting to discuss.

Not having read the books, I must wonder just how homogeneous the culture of Earth has become. Frankly, we aren't exactly homogeneous now; there are neighborhoods where people segregate (forgive the term, but it does describe the situation) themselves from anyone that isn't like themselves. Is that tendency simply...gone? I suppose the contact with alien species might in fact give us something to focus on besides our own differences.

An observation that was made in one of the books is that all the other species have a standard hight and look due to very little genetic variance. Something that would eventually happen to humanity as racial mixing would average out the genetics.

I know a guy who has a white mother and black father and is extremely white. His brother of the same mother and father is extremely black. My point was that as the races blend the genetic attributes that affect color and look will eventually reach a balance of similarity resulting in a people of an average height, weight, skin tone, and eye color with little bits of variation here and there.

Well according to actual geneticists, it's whites who are far less likely to exist in the future (1.5-2 centuries is what I heard quoted once). We're expected to become a minority -- so are blacks in fact.



They predict most humans will be a shade of light brown, or darker 'pink' (from white ancestry.. we're technically pink,not white heh).



Anyhow due to the mingling of asians (as they are the current largest population and still fastest growing) with other ethnic groups, the extremes we currently see in color range of people will narrow significantly over time.



So in Mass Effect's timeline, you'd probably not see too many naturally white or black people.



But then again, it's a game, so who cares?I for one am glad to see a non white human added to the game. Adds some variety
