Here is the question. Why was the mechanic Mexican on ME 1? I mean, not all mechanics are Mexicans. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, it's when the Normandy gets locked down before the Iilos mission and right after Eden Prime. She is standing by the entrance to the Normandy.

So was it really necessary to make a topic about it?

It's an interesting idea, and if it's been touched on in the novels, it might (might) come up as convesation in the game.  Why WOULDN'T we want to talk about it?

Maybe his roots trace back to Africa. I mean, they are really black. I'm not racist, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

How is it going to come up in the game? Hey Jacob, why are you black? That's absurd.

And though I don't read malice into the OP action in creating it, the topic almost as racist as the one created by the troll earlier.

From what I got out of things, Earth is pretty much the same as it is today in the ME universe, just more technologically advanced and the countries, and therefore, races, are only really a united front via the Systems Alliance. Each individual nation is technically as separate as ever.

If that's the case, you'd still have countries with the population that's primarily a specific ethnicity, mainly in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Couple that with immigration and all of that, it's still possible for there not to have the pre-destined "exctintion" of specific ethnicities due to interracial coupling since there'd still be a strong source of said people from the previously mentioned regions.

Everything is so PC nowandays, people are usually afraid to talk about race much if at all. Same for religion and sexual preference.

Meh anyway its not SO far-fetched considering explaination in the OP. Even if all racial/ethnic traits averaged out over time there would still be the occasional outlier. Someone very tall or short(compared to the average attained); those with a genetic disease( like Joker), and those with severe shades of skin color compared to the norm(albino or very dark/red).

But I'm wondering, could this averaging of Human traits/genetics be affected by home planet/colony? Not really much to go on but there could've been different rates of colonial trends among countries on earth. Like more of those living near/in Eurasia deciding to sign up compared to North/South America/Canada.

Man I wanna go through all the Codex entries now and see if this is touched on at all.

Not like ME follows actual science or anything but, people will be darker 200 years from now. So why would this be unusual? It should be more common than it is now.

All the books describe is a general mixing of ethnic traits. All of the main character in the game betray that sort of mixing. Kaidan, Ashley, Shepaloo. The best examples, to my mind, are Anderson and Rear Admiral Mihalovic

They mention that blonde hair is rare, but there some are still born with it. I would imagine Jacob is dark skinned because they simply felt like including a darker skinned character. His voice actor, Adam Lazarre-White, is actually quite a bit lighter then his character model.

It doesn't seem likely that dark skin like that would be rare, as it's actually the sort of colour the human race started with. The most rare individual would be a blone haired blue eyed one, which is why my Shep looks out of place when placed next to his olive skinned, dark haired squadmates.

the real unusual thing about the humans in Mass Effect is the prevalence of white people. it talks about homogeneity, which would result in there not being many white humans anymore, most people would probably look something like Anderson, not old and scar covered, but in terms of skin pigmentation, yet most of the humans you run into in Mass Effect are white, which always struck me as odd.
