I guess this could go for any Bioware game's but do you wish there was something more meaningful in the way relationships happen in Bioware games? it seems like the sex scene is usually the reward I'm not going to pretend to be a great writer or know how writing a video game works but they could do more to try and infuse a little more realism into relationships if they continue to pursue this. Reveal deeper truths about the characters and not just these small problems that lead to sex or a small quest. Lots of stories try and weave real world issues into their stories and Bioware could do something like this to make a deeper roleplaying game. I would like to see games move away from the typical simple story lines of shooting everything or hacking away at everything. Video games can be a great story telling medium The new Dragon Age game could be a way of moving forward in how to present stories in a game.  The way the relationships are done in DAII is actually a move in the right direction

I actually liked in DA2 that the sex scene was half way through the game and not the end point. Having your lover move in with you was an awesome progession. Since RL relationships aren't about getting to sex then staying static until some random event in the future, they are a progression - like someone, then date someone, then sex someone, then move in, etc etc.

ME's way I don't like. Sex is always the end point of a relationship and it always occurs at a specific point in time.
DAO was ok, again though sex as the end point of the relationship (there were only a handful of convo's that took into account you were passed the sex stage), but it was more organic in that it didnt just progress at predetermined story points.

Gaider's blog from a couple of months ago regarding a deeper romance mechanic had some pretty interesting thoughts to offer. I like the idea of deepening this part of the BioWare formula, but it's got to be hard to make it part of the overarching story, which is, of course what we're all really here for. I liked the conclusive content from the ME3EC--Tali's scenes were terrific.

I just finished a 2H rogue playthrough of DA2 that featured a pro-Templar, pro-Chantry (but anti-Meredith, because...you know) female Hawke that featured a rather low-key, but oddly satisfying relationship with Sebastian. It was pretty uninvolved, but I found it a really interesting way to graft the main story of the game (and its mage-Templar conflict) into a relationship in a real way. I haven't found too many of the other romance options in DA2 to be that closely linked to the story, for all of their development.

I agree with this completely. DA2 got the romance right by actually having the romances progess past sex. Now I hope this continues in DA3.

Did you romanced Morrigan? Morrigan romance is exactly what you describing. Sex is meaningless for her Warden and Morrigan literally can have sex first time at the camp and then all romance plot.

The romances in Origins were far superior to that of DA:II and they need to go back to that formula.

I'm pretty sure Zevran's romance continued past sex as well.

id pick walk in the lake and a kiss on the cheek over a sex scene anytime, Unless Bioware makes Sex Scenes meaningful, Not Fade in the darkness whit clothes on. Or showing your characters boots while kissing,

I believe the change sort of applies if you were in a rival romance with her.

I agree in principle.  Though, having the LI hang around the estate and you still couldn't talk to them as much as you could talk to the mabari was...odd.  Not to mention "static" ;)

What I did like was having other companions acknowledge the relationship was taking place:

Having Aveline point out that you and the LI aren't exactly a great example of a stable relationship as you help set her up with Donnic.

Or chatting with Varric about the risks in your chosen relationship

Or Isabela threatening to cut off parts of you is you break Merril's heart :o

Or Anders dropping dark hints that your chosen LI might not be dependable.

I liked those as well, except when you bring merril with you when anders says something about it.

I would love deeper, more involved romances as well as family interactions. I love it when the relationship is mentioned by companions or the LI in banter, conversations, or cutscenes.

One question....how Varric know what happen in Hawke private life and why he tell it to Cassandra?

I would like to see the fade black go away there is no need for it. As long as its not underwear you can use sheets, elbows, hair, legs and arms and lighting to censor it. I would rather have it more like an HBO scene I would be very pleased with something like we see on network tv. They was most likely gutted to maximize profits like the rest of the game was but if its so it can be sold at Wal-mart or to make Xbox/PS happy then do full scenes edit them for those version and allow us to download the rest like we do with the texture pack.

Hawke had a journal.  You can find it in the bedroom of the estate, and when you click on it Hawke sometimes comments about party members making their own contributions to it.  Crude drawings and whatnot.

I think DA:O did a far better job than DA:II in term of romance. It's true that in DA 2 you can ask your LIs to move in, but then what? They just stand there, repeating several lines, and you can't do anything except when they have quests to give you (??????) I certainly don't want my wife to treat me that way. DA:O on the other hand, all your romances, even after you already slept with them, can be engaged in conversations. you can flirt, or tease your Lis, almost everywhere. And all of them have something to offer beyond the sex point (Morrigan's vulnerable when being in love for the first time, Alistair's struggle with his whole "son of the king" thing, etc...). Still, I think DA II got some nice ideas, but the way they realize those ideas was terrible. Hope they would do better with DA:I

Holding hands with your LI. I want to see it.

And I agree with the OP. I definitely want to see more depth and details in the romances. But I disagree with the last line of the OP. I think DA2's romances were a step in the wrong direction... DAO's romances were better, in my opinion.
