sex and love in Dragon Age games

I hate the switch on switch off romance....I like to know that the romance is acknowledged throughout the game, like DAO where you could click on your LI out in the world and get a special romantic greeting, or can get a kiss out of them whenever you wanted, not just at set times throughout the game. I loved the little touches that were added into the DLCs, for example in MOTA after you escape your cell and your LI expresses they worried for you, little things like that.
So basically I'd like the DAO approach to the free romance, with the added extras of DA2 and ME3's dlc's romance touches.

I would love if your LI is going to say something deep and meaningful that requires a deep and meaningful response, that you get the chance to, instead of being shot down, by but this is not the time, or we'll discuss it later sort of thing.

You're pursuing a companion and he/she is starting to show interest but hasn't directly made it obvious yet, instead displaying subtle changes and "hints" making it clear that they're warming to your protagonist? Like they'd maybe stand closer, or are the first on the scene if your protagonist gets into a situation in which he/she need the aid of a companion, or maybe give the protagonist wistful glances when they think he/she isn't looking etc.
I dunno how difficult that sort of thing is to do, or if it would even be worth doing, but that's something I wouldn't mind seeing anyway. Something I'd really like to see implemented is your protagonist actually responding to the LI when they say something referencing the romance in a quest. I often found in DA2 that Hawke's LI would say say something like "thank the Maker you're safe, love!" And Hawke would just stare at him/her with a blank look on his/her face lol.

Yeah, I'd like that too. Even if it's just a case of the potential LI just having a fair chunk of involvement in the overall themes and storyline(s) that doesn't touch on the romance aspect of things. If DA3 really is about some sort of big bad putting all of Thedas at risk, then I don't think it would be too unreasonable for all the companions (both LI and non-romanceable) to have some sort of important role in some aspect of the the game and its themes/storylines.

I hope you don't mind continuing to be weary of dark and mature romances.
Sorry, juvenile wish fulfillment is the future of in-game "romances."

I agree even if it results in fewer characters to romance, having a romance that is tied into the story does make it a bit better I think.Dave of Canada wrote...

I wonder if what's missing are the subtle things, for example:

DAO actually does this in a subtle way. The greeting changes depending on the relationship. From seriously cold if at hostile, to melt your boots at high levels of approval in the romance (Alistair at Adore and the other three while at Love -- Alistair's "in love" greeting was telling, and not as loving as his "adore" greeting). Even the friendship greetings increased in warmth. Also tied to approval was the little comments they made when their portraits were clicked on. Unfortunately, that one had a small bug and if the companion was at 100 approval, even as a friend, you'd occasionally get the "in love" bark. Which is weird because all four of the LIs have seriously mushy comments at that point.
I thought that was great. DA2 had a bit of a cheaper way with a bark depending on approval level, but since it didn't lead to conversation, it was kind of lame. I mean, okay, I once spent a few minutes clicking on Fenris to hear him say "I am yours," but that was a very stupid way to spend a couple of minutes since there was nothing else to it -- not even a kiss.
ETA: Both Zevran's and Morrigan's romances continued far beyond when you first could have sex with them (whether you chose to at that point or not). In fact, sex becoming something other than simple was a defining part of those romances. Zevran got over it -- Morrigan did not (at least, not until WH). But obviously, the physical intimacy for those two characters was not the cumulation of the romance -- the end point of both those romances was the realization that they had fallen in love.

I'd like to see a romance used as a subversive weapon against the player.

7th graders know this, and 7th grade is when you reach a peak understanding of such affairs.
That being said, they should deepen the experience of the first one.

They could but they don't have to since there are asexual people who want love but not sex, and there are people who just want sex with no string attached.iiReaperZz wrote...

I seem to recall way back in BG2, there was a point in the main game where one of the major villains would kidnap your LI and turn them into a vampire. You're forced to kill them, and (if you want you LI back) have to go on a rather involved quest to rid them of vampirism and get them ressurected.
