Well, with that in mind, I once again will go back to what I said earlier and suggest Andrew-Lee Potts, who I personally only know from the TV series Alice, which is a show I do not particularily care about, but I did see a few episodes with Andrew as the Mad Hatter, and at that time I already thought he could be a good Doctor.

I like this idea. He was a nice Hatter and I really liked him in Primeval and he has that kind of style around him that could work as The Doctor..

As for a female doctor.. It will probably work, and I will still watch it, but they shouldn't do it. It is indeed like making a female Bond or Sherlock (or Watson for that matter, which is pretty much the reason why I hated Elementary even before it started). These characters are icons and you shouldn't simply change them.
If you want to do that, create a spin-off serie or a completely new serie, this way you can establish this female character as an icon herself (pretty much like what they did with Lara Croft).

Andrew-Lee Potts? Yeah, I could also see him doing The Doctor's role well to be honest.

He even looks like a Doctor:

I know that's a screenshot of Potts as the Mad Hatter, but all I can see when I look at him is a younger and modern version of the 7th doctor, with a little bit of 9th and 10th in him as well.

So how are you folks going to fill up the gap at Saturday evening until November the 23th? Are you going to rewatch the old episodes of Doctor Who? Or are you going to watch something else?

I'm currently watching Alice, also a British show. It's quite good, although not as good as Doctor Who obviously.

I might give Sherlock a try as well. Can anyone tell me if Sherlock is any good?

Sherlock is another great Moffat series. It's smart and funny. Benedict Cumberbatch makes a good Holmes.

I think you would like it.

I'm up for that if she can pull it off better than anyone else.

Well, I just read that it's probably going to be Rory Kinnear at this point (note that it's not officially confirmed - this is a rumor, but the author sure makes it seem like he's got inside info):

http://www.telegraph...Doctor-Who.html

Of course, Moffat's saying no decision has been made as yet, although that article about Ladbrokes suspending betting after Kinnear pulled ahead as the top favorite was a bit amusing (http://metro.co.uk/2...-role-3834085/).

Also saw a list of Doctor Who candidates - far less likely but entertaining due to the inclusion of Helen Mirren. I'm not going to lie - I saw Jamie Dornan on that list, and I went <3 <3 <3 even though I'm guessing that despite denials it probably is Kinnear (if the rumor is true and he accepts).

Rory Kinnear is probably NOT gonna be the next Doctor, because he simply already is too big and too famous. New Doctors are very often smaller, less known actors. I don't think the 12th Doc is gonna be any different.

And Jamie Dorner? Never heard of him. Who is he?

Or do you mean Jamie Dorman? I can see him as a valid possibility.

All the actors on ejustinp's list are not going to be the Doctor. Every time when the current Doctor announces to leave Doctor Who these same names pop up as "rumored" new Doctors, yet they're never it.

Oops, Jamie Dornan - damn typo; could've sworn it said Dorner in that link (which seems to have changed, so I'll have to edit that out of my postt).

Yeah, I agree that they usually go with lesser name and that based on past history it seems quite unlikely that a big-name/relatively famous actor would do it, but who knows. A lot of these candidates being thrown around do seem pretty unlikely on the whole. I just read one list that included Idris Elba, who I absolutely LOVE (Luther was one of my favorite series). But I see the odds of him becoming the next Doctor as being effectively nil, given his stature.

Just watched the first episode of season 5. I must admit it was a great episode that had the daunting tasks of introducing both a new Doctor and a new companion. I was more skeptical about the companion part, to be honest, but they hooked me in by introducing her as a kid first, similar to the Madame de Pompadour episode. That final bit about the Earth being protected and the flashes of previous episodes and Doctors was pretty good too.

It's amazing that this show is so big that the reveal of the new Doctor is on live tv on the BBC throughout the world.

And it is a great timing as well, since I go on holiday in a few hours, this makes a great start of the trip

And the new Doctor is: Peter Capaldi!

Just saw the announcement - whee! And they even showed a Doctor Who-related letter from him written when he was 15. Glad the new Doctor is a fan too!

He's done a lot of British TV but is most famous for playing Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It.

Before this, Capaldi was one of the fan favourites in terms of who people want the next Doctor to be, apparently.

I don't really know him either so I have no idea how he will be as the new Doctor but I had no clue who Matt Smith or David Tennant were before they became the Doctor.

It's great that he is a fan, that letter was a nice touch :)

Fun fact: Peter Capaldi actually previously played a character in the show in the episode The Fires of Pompeii, if you remember.
