The problem for me is that I've never seen the Doctor care for River in any episode she's appeared. I mean, with Ten and Rose you could see it on their faces and in the way they talked to each other (I mean, just take a look at this scene). Eleven and River, on the other hand, flirt every now and then but it's more funny than loving, if you get my drift. We are told that they both end up together and that they love each other but we aren't shown this.
So my question is, why? Why does this relationship feel so forced? For that matter, why does it even exist? If these two characters love each other, why aren't we shown this? Why is it always passed off as a casual flirt or joke?

They have some good webisode material between them but I also thought their goodbye in Name of the Doctor was pretty powerful and nicely understated.
I'd say he has a decent basis for a relationship with her. They both like adventure, they got off on each other's quirks and they both dig each other personalities. That's how a lot of actual relationships work.
Heck I'd argue that's pretty much the extent of a basis of relationship with Rose. I mean why does he love HER? I'd say it has less to do with Rose herself and that he's just fought a war in which everyone he loves or cares about has died and has latched onto her as a means of dulling the pain. There's a good scene near the end of season 2 when the Doctor casually mentions he has had kids before and Rose is flabbergasted.
For all the sidelong looks and teary eyed scenes he never really let her into his life. Sure he was upset when she left but so was Eleven w/ Amy and he even entered a period of hermitage in the case of the latter. You don't dump the woman you love with all your soul on a beach to take care of your clone, he would never leave the TARDIS behind like that
In the case of River the thing is he spent seasons 5 and half of 6 swinging between growing to like River and staring at her suspiciously because he wasn't sure she was who she implied herself to be. It was never meant to be another ROMANCE FOR THE AGES, it wasn't never about that it was always about the mystery.
Besides there's only one woman for the Doctor.

River: You're going to have to trust us this time.
The Doctor: Trust you. Sure. But first of all, Doctor Song, just one thing. Who are you? You're someone from my future—getting that—but who? {silence}. Okay. Why are you in prison? Who did you kill? Hm? {silence} Now I love a bad girl, me. But trust you? Seriously?
I almost felt sorry for River at this point. Eleven can be plenty harsh at times.
As for "The Doctor's Wife," I must admit it was probably the best episode of the season.

‘Doctor Who’ Season 8 Won’t Premiere Until Autumn 2014
Guess the 50th Anniversary Special will have to do.

For now, my obvious ones are "A secret he will take to his grave," "Trenzalore," and "Remember me," but I still have many to listen to.

Well, I feel like talking about River Song. Why? Because I don't understand. I don't understand why the Doctor marries her, I don't understand why the Doctor seems to love her (does he?). I've finished watching series 5-7 and while I don't particularly love River's character, I don't particularly hate her either. She has some good episodes and some bad ones (more like over-the-top ones, Hitler anyone?), but that's the pitfall with any recurring character (even with the Doctor himself).
Isn't your post more or less encapsulating the Moffat era? Tell, don't show? You have to take into account Moffat's Twitter (now closed) to get any closure on his damned plots. Who blew the TARDIS up? Is Moffat aware that the TARDIS blew up in Troughton's time, and didn't end the universe? What the heck is this 'endless bitter war' agains the Doctor? Who is Kovarian? Do the Slience think that they succeeded in killing the Doctor in Utah, and thus have left him alone during all of Series 7? Dorium's prophecy - thus far makes no sense. Trenzalore, oldest question in the universe (breaking the fourth wall...not impressed) - fall of the Eleventh? What fall of the Eleventh? That bit where the TARDIS 'fell' onto the planet? Feels like Eleven was meant to go at the end of that episode, but at the last minute Moffat had to re-write the plot so he didn't - and now we're probably heading back to Trenzalore for the Christmas special?
Sorry about the rant. With respect to River, the additional scenes on the Series 6 boxset imply that the Doctor has an adventure with River almost every single night, while his current companions (Amy + Rory at the time) are sleeping. Again, telling, not showing.
