Isn't your post more or less encapsulating the Moffat era?  Tell, don't show?

I suppose it does, in hindsight. Unfortunately, Moffat's MO seems to be to promise a story larger than life then deliver an unsatisfying conclusion that doesn't tie all the loose ends.

You have to take into account Moffat's Twitter (now closed) to get any closure on his damned plots.

Never did, sorry.

Who blew the TARDIS up?  Is Moffat aware that the TARDIS blew up in Troughton's time, and didn't end the universe?  What the heck is this 'endless bitter war' agains the Doctor?  Who is Kovarian?  Do the Slience think that they succeeded in killing the Doctor in Utah, and thus have left him alone during all of Series 7?  Dorium's prophecy - thus far makes no sense.  Trenzalore, oldest question in the universe (breaking the fourth wall...not impressed) - fall of the Eleventh?  What fall of the Eleventh?  That bit where the TARDIS 'fell' onto the planet?  Feels like Eleven was meant to go at the end of that episode, but at the last minute Moffat had to re-write the plot so he didn't - and now we're probably heading back to Trenzalore for the Christmas special?

Heh, yes, talk about loose ends. First it was "yes, the secret is my name" then, "no, that would be silly, the secret is this other Doctor." Now I've no idea what the question or the answer were in the first place. The beginning of series 6? We see the Doctor get shot a second time while in the middle of his regeneration, proving it WAS the Doctor who got shot. What happened in the last episode? They said it was his robotic doppelganger and conveniently removed the regeneration FX. And yes, what's all this about the Doctor becoming a monster all of a sudden? Hasn't the Doctor helped countless beings all over the universe as shown in the series 6 finale? So, the Doctor has lots of people who owe him favours, what's wrong with that?

Augh! Let's not dwell on this further.<_<

Sorry about the rant.  With respect to River, the additional scenes on the Series 6 boxset imply that the Doctor has an adventure with River almost every single night, while his current companions (Amy + Rory at the time) are sleeping.  Again, telling, not showing.

I still think this relationship feels forced as hell.

The official synopsis for "The Day of the Doctor" has been released:

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th Anniversary Special: in 2013, something terrible is awakening in London's National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor's own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

Thoughts?:?

EDIT: Hey, this ancient space battle wouldn't by any chance be the Time Lords vs. Daleks, right?

Yeah, probably/hopefully will finally show us a bit of the Last Great Time War.  Though knowing Moffat, he won't just use RTD's lore on the matter, and make up a bunch of random crap which will supposedly change the way we've ever viewed the show.  etc.

Seems like an awful waste to ignore the groundwork laid by Davies.

Yeah.  At any rate, Moffat claims he is going to tie every single plot hole up in 11's last episode (Christmas Special).  I somehow doubt it, but oh well.  I'm used to being incredbily disappointed by Moffat's finales and 'big episodes' (like The Angels Take Manhattan, which IMO other than it's last 5 or so minutes, was one of the worst New Who episodes I've ever seen - I'd watch Love and Monsters over the rest of that drivel any day!)

In the waiting period between the end of Series 7 and the 50th, I've finally started on Classic Who.  Have almost gotten to the end of Hartnell's era - have to say, am enjoying it so much more than I thought I would.  It's slow moving at times, but in it's own way, far more creative than the current show, and more than that, the solutions actually make sense!  There is no damned sonic screwdriver to wave and fix everything in the last 30 seconds of the episode!  Hartnell himself has me in stitches regularly, as he often mucks up his lines.  One of my favorites was when he tells a new companion "I am not a Dog" in response to her calling him 'Doc'.  Anyway, have been using the audios for the missing episodes, but was waiting for The Tenth Planet to come out on DVD (with the last episode animated) before moving on, which it just did, so Troughton here I come!

Haha, I'd pay to see that!

Will have to watch it if I want to call myself a hardcore Doctor Who fan.:D

So, it would seem Hurt plays the Doctor who stole "the moment" to end the Time War. Could this be "the moment"?

And, yes, we'll be seeing more of the Time War.

Meet the Traversable Achronal Retrograde Domain in Spacetime (TARDIS):

Doctor Who's TARDIS could be real (in theory)

And here's the paper with the theory:

Nice. So Eccleston is still the Ninth Doctor but the 10th (maybe) regeneration.

Wish there were more new episodes with Paul McGann, even if they're shorter.

Never seen Paul McGann as the Doctor, and damn, he's good.

I second more shorts with him.
