Paul McGann played the 8th Doctor in a crap movie made in 96'

He was brilliant in it. He does audio stories as the 8th and in The Night of The Doctor, he references his companions from those stories as well as the movie

Also, for doubters, twas confirmed in The Night that a Time Lord could regenerate into a Time Lady, given the randomness

Likely won't happen ever, but nice to hear that plot wise, it is possible

Great pic! Now all we need is for Eccleston to make a surprise (because it would be a surprise) appearance in the special!:o

I have heard about the infamous Who movie with the 8th Doctor, I've seen clips....

I want MORE 8th! Why wasn't he given his own series?

Surely Hurt has to regenerate towards the end. Surely? Its too good an opportunity to pass up.

According to the wiki, while the TV film was popular in the UK that wasn't the case in the US. The TV film was made as a joint venture between the BBC, Universal and Fox, and it was meant to serve as a pilot for a potentially new series should Fox deem it worthy. They didn't and that was that.

Check it out.

Well, he could regenerate into the Ninth Doctor and that would be AWESOME!!!:o

Of course, Moffat being Moffat he probably won't even show it.<_<

All it'd take is for Tennant to hand him a leather jacket and call it a day.

That's all I ask.

I adore Paul McGann, and would've loved to have had a full series with him in it. Lovely little minisode...thanks for posting. ;)

For a minisode I have to admit, it was pretty damn good.

The reviewer is right though- he stepped in and IMMEDIATELY was The Doctor. And not just because I recognized him.

He slipped in effortlessly and did in fact show many emotions, both subtle and vividly. It was pretty wicked for such a short minisode.

Sounds about right. I haven't even seen any Who material outside of the last three Doctors, and he just steamrollered straight into it. No doubts like I had with both Tennant and Smith initially.

For the first time, I actually want to go back and watch some of the older stuff, if McGann's anything to go by.

I've never seen him play the Doctor but he owned that role in six minutes.

I'd recommend looking for the 96' Doctor Who movie if you want more McGann. Great performance for a terrible movie.

Also, if you don't mind audio and no video, there are his audio stories.

I will be honest though regarding my opinion, McGann as the Doctor>Smith as the Doctor.

So who did the Doctor regen into exactly?

I heard... that it was.... a young version of Hurt's doctor?

He's going to fight in the time war now? What did he say at the end? "I'm the doctor no more?"

The 8th Doctor regenerated into a youthful War Doctor.

John Hurt plays an aged and experienced War Doctor. The Time War took...time.

Moffat claimed the 8th Doctor was not involved with the 50th anniversary in any way.

So basically, it was BS. It was revealed today in an interview that McGann was brought in to film The Night of the Doctor in the final two days of production on The Day of the Doctor, and that they knew for the longest that it would happen.

They just had to deny it publicly the entire time so as to surprise the fan base.

So yeah. Moffat lies.
