I was just wondering, could Osgood become Capaldi's companion?
She'd be great. Thing is, I'd be worried about her getting shouted at.
Especially if Peter Capaldi's doctor is anything like Malcolm Tucker.

It just occurred to me that Moffat might be trying to pull a Clara on us again.
Do you mean companion of cosmic significance such as:
Bad Wolf Rose Tyler
If it weren't for here the Universe would be in bad shape Donna Noble
Important to fixing the crack in time Amy Pond
Repeatedly saved the Doctor's life in several lives and prevented the Doctor from comitting genocide Clara Oswald.
I love all these examples. It was nice having a handful of cosmic significance companions. I do love JJ Abrams style mysteries after all.
But now this trend of mysterious cosmic significance plotting is getting stale. Finding other ways to make the companion important would be nice.
Is there a trope for person of cosmic significance on TV Tropes?

No. I meant that Moffat introduced Clara as a seemingly secondary character in Asylum of the Daleks but she eventually became a companion. He could be doing the same thing here too. By the by, only Donna, Amy, and Clara qualify as "cosmic significance" companions since it's constantly hinted at that everything revolves around them in some way. However, the "bad wolf" reference in Series 1 is very vague and does not expressly state that Rose will become an all-powerful time goddess at the end of the series.

If so, I'm guessing something will happen when Smith "dies" to give the Doctor one last regeneration. We'll then spend the rest of the series with the Doctor knowing he's on his last life or some such.
Seems like something Moffat would do.

The show will end when the BBC says it should end. After all, they're the ones producing it.

But as far as Moffat's plot goes he does seem set on the number 13, given "All Thirteen!"

Companion: So this is it Doctor?
Capaldi's Doctor: Yeah. This is it.
Companion: No more regenerations?
Capaldi's Doctor: Ahh. Just shut up and get me some aspirin. Damn Cyber Punk taking me down in one hit. Ahhh. All these years taking them down and they finally get me. Where's the aspirin!?
Companion: I'm sorry Doctor. We're out of aspirin. By the way? What did you mean by Cyber Punk? We haven't encountered any Cyber Punks.
Capaldi's Doctor: Cybermen! Are you happy? Sheesh! I can't believe I get taken down by a toaster! Where's my aspirin!? Ahh! It burns! [The Doctor shouts made up curse words for a few minutes while sad music plays] Everything is blurry. So very blurry. I'm so sorry.
Companion: Don't be sorry. We'll find a way to bring you back. I promise. We'll go to another ....
Capaldi's Doctor: Shushhh. You want to help. Just stay.
[3 minutes with no dialogue spoken and no music ensues].
Companion:
[The screen fades to black and white text appears.]
Perhaps one day The Doctor will return...
[The credits are shown with no music in the background]

Hope you didn't find my speculation on how the series might end offensive.
It wasn't meant to be.
I don't want the series to end. Though I have a feeling that Peter Capaldi will be the last Doctor.
Why?
Because after Stephen Moffat leaves the show along with the rest of the staff who were around during the Russel T Davis era, their replacements just won't be able to live up to the hype.
The show will lose steam 1980's style, with new staff who aren't sure what to do with the Doctor.
Also because Peter Capaldi represents the 13th Doctor.
Stephen Moffat hasn't said anything about leaving. I'm guessing he will since he has been with the show since 2005. So it's likely that he'll want to try new stuff. That and top Hollywood Producers/Directors like Steven Spielberg might want his talent. Tin Tin sequel anyone?

Why would I take offense? It's certainly appealing to concoct a scenario of the Doctor's "final stand" as it were.

I wouldn't be so hasty. First, if and when Moffat leaves the show, we don't know everyone from the RTD era will leave as well. Second, even if everyone from the RTD era leaves, it's not the end of the world. In the same way the Doctor changes the show can change as well. Yes, they may stumble here and there but, let's face it, both Moffat and RTD have had their share of bad episodes.

He's been doing other stuff already with Sherlock, but it's probably time to pass the torch to someone else.

Stephen Moffat and RTD have had their fare share of bad episodes.
The two specials with the Master come to mind. "Here come the drums".
The main worry is the incredibly high expectations that people might have.
They'll look at the beginning of the Reboot era in the same way people look at the Classic Era. With rose tinted goggles. Thus this will set unrealistic standards for the new Dr Who team.
I'm certain the show will still be of high quality (it always has been during classic and reboot, even if there have been some terrible episodes here and there). It's just that people may not give the new crew much of a chance and just dismiss them.
Besides Capaldi will enter the show at a time of huge changes and fans of the Reboot era may feel that the show is losing it's charm.
In other words I'm worried that audiences won't give the show a chance when the old reboot crew leave and new faces take over.

I've always assumed that due to messing about with space and time in general, all bets were off and any old hocum could be rationalised to keep the franchise going.
