Sad news because Matt Smith is leaving.
______________________________________________________________________________
I have a question.
If a non-British Actor were to play Dr Who, which actor would you cast?
No restrictions other than the actor not being British. (So you can include female suggestions).
For me I can think of a few who I think would be great.
Nathan Fillion: Goofy, charming, adventurous with some odd quirks. Add some serious moments into the mix and for me you have a new take on the doctor that still remains faithful to the show. Imagine a combination of Castle and Malcolm Reynolds.
Robert Downey Junior: Smart, witty, arrorgant, outgoing, smooth and geeky. Like Nathan Fillion every other line would be a joke. Fun adventure with a fun character.
Harrison Ford: An acting powerhouse who can be the goofy adventurer, the geeky time traveller but also the serious wounded man with a William Hartnell attitude.
John Malkovich: Imagine Peter Capaldi (the intimidating doctor with a mean attitude) and then add lots of crazy stares and quirks. John Malkovich will take companions into scary environments. If Doctor Who is to take a more horror orientated route, then Malkovich's presence will help.
I can think of a couple of females who could play The Doctor, but sadly I'd be breaking my own criteria.
They include Judi Dench and Jessica Raine.

12 previous Doctors
11 Dalek warriors
10 shiny Cybermen
9 screaming companions
8 Sontaran fighters
7 silly hats
6 clumsy falls
5 question mark motifs
4 temporal paradoxes
3 temporal anomalies
2 Parallel Earths
and a Weeping Angel on a Christmas Tree
I'm struggling with numbers 2-11

Preventing genocide.
Repeatedly saving the Doctor's life.
Repeatedly helping the Doctor save the day.
I don't think you can ask for a more useful companion than Clara Oswald.

I had a cracking time! (Bad pun).
I am sold. This new Doctor is going to be amazing and a bit menacing. Really menacing!

It had its moments, but overall I wasn't a big fan of the episode.
Felt pretty much the same. It had some pacing issues and wasn't nearly as strong as Day of the Doctor. Mind you, like you said, it did have it's moments...
Capaldi though! Can't wait to see more of him!
To me something felt a bit off, like Capaldi was trying a bit too hard to play a more whimsical kind of character. But it's a bit early to judge.
So when does the next season start again...?

You know what?
When I first saw Matt Smith I was like "oh dear".
Now I actually feel sad that he's leaving. He was an amazing Doctor! Love his "Manic Dream Pixie Boy" alien goofball approach to the role.
Anyway. Looking forward to Peter Capaldi.
He didn't come across as whimsical to me. He came accross as scary.
Capaldi has that frightening look on his face. You know what? I like it.
The Doctor is supposed to be feared by Cybermen, Daleks, Sontarans and Ice Warriors alike.
Now he has the right face for the part.
When Capaldi grins, the Daleks hide behind the sofa. I really mean it in a good way, because I want to see a scary Doctor.

Aye, he received a new cycle.
The show explains that Matt may be called the 11th Doctor, but he's exhausted all his regenerations.
The War Doctor and Meta-Crisis Ten are valid and count.
Thus, all twelve regenerations were spent, thirteen Doctors existed.
Matt was to be the last. But Clara was having none of that, so she pleaded to the Time Lords for aid, asked for them to help him.
Thus, new cycle.

So Matt Smith Doctor is dead now or something right? So if I were to start watching this show now, would I be okay not watching the like, million episodes that came before whatever new season is coming out?
You'd be fine starting with the 12th Doctor(Peter Capaldi, late next year).
Just be prepared to be VERY confused if they bring up past plot threads, characters, and such things. Which they will. They always do.

I had exactly the same uncertainty with both Tennant and Smith during their intros, and they both turned out to be brilliant.
Now I only have high hopes for Capaldi. Maybe I've just learnt to trust their casting decisions, but I'd like to think its more for all the reasons listed above. ^ #ScaryDoctor

Most of the images were actually quite charming.
He actually does have a charming smile too.
So I typed "Peter Capaldi scary" and then I found what I was looking for.

Hunh... I really don't see Capaldi as "scary" in there, maybe "shocked and confused" initially. Then whimsical when he started complaining about not liking the colour of his new liver...Abraham_uk wrote...
