So does this mean River Song either isn't dead or that she was never saved to the computer? If he was suppoosed to end with Matt Smith & die on that planet, that means he would of had to have given her the screwdriver. But he still has the screwdriver when he's at Trenzalor, & he lives again thanks to the Time Lords. So now that whole future/past should change. Because if he never gives her the screwdriver before his death at Trenzalor then there is no screwdriver to inspire his past self to save her. If she even goes to the Library anymore.

I thought this was a pretty disappointing episode overall. It really looked like Moffatt struggled to tie up plot ends he didn't fire off properly the first time around by just acting as if an entirely different event was the trigger, and then created huge paradoxes with the second last episode he did.

He did give her the screwdriver. There was a mini-sode made that let you know it(the date they go on at The Singing Towers) happened- Last Night.

You don't actually see it happen, but you can accept it did.

Spoilers for the Christmas Special-

Aye, he received a new cycle.

The show explains that Matt may be called the 11th Doctor, but he's exhausted all his regenerations.

The War Doctor and Meta-Crisis Ten are valid and count.

Thus, all twelve regenerations were spent, thirteen Doctors existed.

Matt was to be the last. But Clara was having none of that, so she pleaded to the Time Lords for aid, asked for them to help him.

Thus, new cycle.

They did the same for the Master when he exhausted his regeneration cycle, so it isn't unprecedented.

Yeah, its happened before. It'll happen again if the show makes it to 100 years. Hah

Wait, I only just realized something. If the Eleventh had no more regenerations, how come we see him regenerating in the first episode of series 6?

If you check the last episode of the series, the regeneration FX was removed.:innocent:

I doubt Moffat knew how he was getting out of that mess, otherwise he'd never have included the regeneration FX in the first place.

It's pretty much what Moffat does. He creates an extremely intriguing premise but doesn't know how to resolve it.

Here, have a Capaldi:

It wasn't really him, as we find out during the Wedding with River Song.

If he was regenerating, then it was him. After all, they changed a fixed point in time.

Everyone thought he died, but he simply faked his death with a duplicate; that was the entire point. Are we really debating what's possible with science fiction technology?

Of course we are. Saying it's "science fiction" is no excuse for lack of consistency or adequate explaining.

By the shows own logic, he was supposed to die at that point. His later surving is a cheat - and it almost ends the universe when River refuses to kill him. So the first time around, it was the Doctor dying. The second time around, it wasn't.

...if Christopher Ecclestone had agreed to be in the anniversary special then they wouldn't have added John Hurt and there would have still been 1 regeneration after Matt Smith.

Whether you're like me and love the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Special, or you're left wanting, I think most of us agree that the show could improve.

Here is what I'd like to see.

  • More time to get to know side characters: These are the characters that will only appear in one episode, but are very important to the plot of said episode.
  • Less convolution. I am probably in the minority here, but all this talk about cracks in the universe, time stasis fields, being born in the time vortex and rebooting the universe leads to this expression:huh:.
  • Plausible science and common sense being used to solve problems as opposed to bizzare plot devises supported by techno babble and psuedo science. In fact, if a real scientific principle was applied to one of the Doctor's adventures that would be quite facinating. Hard to do, but still facinating.
  • When we visit alien worlds, take the time to actually learn about said alien world. I love seeing alien worlds, but I don't wont them to be reduced to "wow, look, I'm on another planet!" Learning about fictional worlds with different social, cultural and political structures are always facinating.
  • No more "cosmic significant" companions. I enjoyed this theme for a while because it was new. I liked the idea of a companion being linked to some mystery regarding the universe, be it Amy Pond and the crack in time, Rose and Bad Wolf or Clara Oswald and her multiple appearances. Whilst these companions are interesting, this theme is becoming overused. I would like to see something different being done with future companions.
  • More dilemmas for the Doctor. No easy choices. No convenient plot devise. Just horrible choice A versus horrible choice B.

  • Stop telling us how awesome the Doctor is. Stop telling us how awesome humanity is. The actions of human companions and the actions of the Doctor already communicate this message loud and clear. We don't need the script to hammer the message any louder.

  • No magic reset button. If for example, we witness the Earth getting wasted by a series nuclear bombs, make it final. Heck I'd love to see an episode where the Doctor tries to prevent World War 3 but as a result becomes the very cause of World War 3. However if Earth was obliterated and then history is reverted as a result of a convienent plot devise, that will cheapen the destruction of all life on Earth.

Those are just my opinions. Personally, I am merely satisified just watching more Dr Who be it Classic Who or Reboot Who. Feel free to post some suggestions of your own.

I'm not seeing either with this specific example. A mechanical, highly advanced body specifically designed to replicate a person to the point it's difficult to distinguish between the two; I'm not seeing the issue. Nor do I see why anyone would think he was supposed to die when the point was merely to let everyone think he did, since it was the prevention of the replicant's demise that caused all the chaos that ensued when River tried to alter history.
