Love Peter Capaldi - also that he didn't go 'full English' and kept with a soft Scots tone (the full Glasgow accent might have been a bit much!)
He's Scottish now so he can complain about things. ![]()

Just watched it. I still need more episodes to bring me over. Atm, I still like Matt better. Plus, Matt's intro episode was a lot better in my opinion.

A LOT of people are sharing that opinion, I've noticed.

It has to do with the ending.

Yeah. That moment was tender, but it lacked the energy 11th hour had.

That felt like an "Eleven speaking to the fans" type thing really.

Probably was. I still have to wait and see though.

If you go back and watch/listen to it again with the "Eleven to fans" thing in mind, it all makes sense. Tremendous sense.

It does. It was put there for that reason. It doesn't mean I have to like it.

Oh you wouldn't be the only one. There are those that adamantly oppose Matt's appearance to those who loved it, those who thought it was cool to those who thought it was just so-so.

I liked his appearance. I didn't like his message.

I know. I am just going to miss the Matt. His felt like adventures, while this one seems more serious in tone which I don't like.

Oh. Oooooooh.
Well, Twelve seems to be the one who's humor is gonna be definitely different in tone. It'll take getting used to.

Agreed, but that's because Matt Smith was an endless ball of energy and his episode showed that. Plus after the rather maudlin, wangsty and idiot plot that was "The End of Time", it was nice to see the Doctor having fun again and in a story that didn't take itself too seriously.

"Deep Breath" actually reminded me a lot more of Ten's first outing in "The Christmas Invasion", where he's stuck in bed for a time, gabbers about in pyjamas whilst trying to figure out what kind of person he is this time around, before ending in a confrontation up in the clouds, with the bad guy falling to his death.
Twelve reminds me of a more tougher Doctor akin to Nine, who's a bizarre blend of warm and intimidating. And after the "boyfriend" Doctors of Ten and Eleven, it's kind of a nice change of pace to see them going this route again.

I am not a Ecclosten fan either. I prefer the more cheery fun everywhere Doctors.

Tom Baker was the perfect Doctor for me.
Baker was enigmatic, child like, bizarre, alien, upbeat, energetic, funny, intelligent and deliverer of Jelly Babies.
For me, no Doctor before or since has matched the gravitas and intensity of the amazing Tom Baker.
Every episode was a mystical, magical adventure into multiple realms and even an entire new Universe called N-Space.
He always knew when to be funny, serious. His voice was perfect!
I hope this nostalgic admiration wasn't too rose tinted for your liking.
The only thing, that would have made Tom Baker better, is if Douglas Adams wrote every single episode he was in as opposed to having a brief stint.
Don't get me wrong. I love all of the Doctors in the cannon series.
- I love the grumpy, wise and vigilant William Hartnell.
- I love the bizarre and hard to fathom Patrick Troughton.
- I love the active, ass kicking James Bond meets X-Files John Pertwee.
- Read my dedication to Tom Baker above.
- I love the down to Earth empathy of Peter Davidson
- I love the arrogant, obnoxious now it all that was Colin Baker
- I love the serious sharply spoken Sylvester McCoy
- I love the gothic, intelligent and highly perceptive Paul McGann
- I love the ominous intensity of John Hurt
- I love the adventurous yet grounded Christopher Eccleston
- I love the dramatic, fun, swashbuckling "allons y" miracle maker that was David Tennant
- I love the geeky, charming, quirky and down right bizarre, accessory loving, waltzing Matt Smith
- I think I am going to love the dark, brooding yet also very funny Peter Capaldi.
I may still prefer Tom Baker, but I'm still willing to embrace change with open arms. Bring it on.
P.s. I wish Douglas Adams was still alive and still writing Doctor Who episodes.
