I hope Big Finish Productions does audios for John Hurt.

Big Finish have produced some of the best Doctor Who stories ever.

In addition they really fixed my main issue with Paul McGann. Not enough Paul McGann.

The Peter Davidson, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy stories were pretty good too.

I haven't seen/heard enough John Hurt as The Doctor for my liking...

I loved how "Night of the Doctor" gave the Big Finish Audios a shout out and made the Eighth Doctor's Big Finish companions canonical, opening up the possibility that all of Big Finish is potentially canon within the greater Whoniverse. I adored Paul McGann's Doctor and was glad to see him more fleshed out in the audios, as well as back for his regeneration scene, even if it was only seven minutes long. That entire short seemed so much longer and for a brief moment, it was like he'd never left the role.

(Also Big Finish is amazing simply for making the Sixth Doctor more outwardly heroic and less of an insufferable jerk he often written as. Colin Baker was completely screwed over in the 80's with how his character was written and that absolutely appalling coat).

Now we need more War Doctor, even if it's only in short stories, novels or audio form, because I seriously wanted to see more of the guy after "Day of the Doctor". He seems like my kind of Doctor, a little more serious, sarcastic and a tad bit grumpy, but still incredibly heroic when the chips are down.

I think, Stephen Moffat referred to him as the Doctor we were robbed of.

Perhaps, if the series had resumed after the Paul McGann run, we could have had two or three series of him followed by a couple of series dedicated to the Time War with John Hurt at the helm.

The series continues tomorrow.

I loved this episode, although Peter Capaldi didn't really come into his own till half way through the episode.

He spent the first half going through post regeneration syndrome. I think that is the most extreme case of post regeneration syndrome in the series. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, now that his post regeneration crisis is over, we can see more of the Capaldi incarnation.

So naturally I'm very excited. New doctor, new take on the role. It's always an exciting time for me. :wizard:

Hmm. Well since the BBC won't allow a few curse words to invade a show that is watched by a lot of children... This could be tricky.

I shall rise to the challenge!

Davros: We meet again Doctor.
Doctor: Who do you think you are? You know what you look like? You look a horribly cooked human was chopped in half and yanked onto a deformed tin can with baubles glued to the sides. As for your minions, which have plungers and egg whisks for arms. I made more impressive dioramas for my school science project on Gallifrey. After all the times I've thwarted your plans, one would think you'd have learnt your lesson by now. I swear that a single celled amoeba would make better life choices than you. You think you can handle me? I'm Doctor Know! I'm the Lord of Time Travel!
Davros: You seem a lot angrier since we last met.
Doctor: Oh really now. Maybe it's because I'm tired of facing you and your tired shenanigans. Genocide this, invade that, conquer this and smite that. Today the only thing that is getting smited is you when I reverse the polarity on your computerised brain and watch if fry in front of the...

Director: Cut! We're going to drop the frying the brain.
Capaldi: So you're telling me that it's okay to have genocide on Doctor Who, but having the Doctor talking about frying someone's brain is one step too far.
Director: Sorry. Parents would complain.
Capaldi: The same parents who didn't bat an eyelid when the Doctor exterminated a plant based life form, killed of millions of Daleks with techno babble, and nearly exterminated his own people.
Director: It's not my fault that the parents lack consistency.

I enjoyed that one.

Not the best Dr Who episode but in my opinion a very good one.

Peter Capaldi didn't disappoint.

I remember that one time when William Hartnell's Doctor and his companions shrunk. (I'm not that old, I saw the episode on video).

Anyway prepare for spoilers...

Spoiler

For those of you who aren't going to read the spoiler. Yes, there is a hint of Malcolm Tucker in Capaldi's Doctor Who. No swearing and graphic metaphors, but if you watch this episode you'll definitely pick up a little Malcolm in the performance.

Thank goodness. I'll be catching the episode later in the day as it is for us in the colonies, so I like hearing things like this.

So Doctor Who meets Robin Hood again apparently. Considering that, I wonder why the preview has the Doctor calling Hood a myth to begin with. Seems the Doctor is going senile! Do time-lords die of old age?

Just watched today's episode, and it was AWESOME.

Definitely getting some Malcolm Tucker out of The Doctor, which is making me all kinds of giddy

Very happy with how this episode turned out. 12 is winning me over. Will definitely be anticipating next week's episode. :)

According to "your" definition of a good man, is the Doctor a good man?

Discuss...

You can take into account the actions of The Doctor in both Classic and New Who.

Also books and audios are fair game as long as they are considered canon by the BBC.

The 'exploiting a man in his final moments' thing had me with my hand over my mouth. I didn't expect that from the Doctor. At all.

And that's great. I love what Tucker Capaldi's doing with the role.

Despite that, I'd say the doctor's definitely a good man. He's just getting a little more... pragmatic.

Pfft. Clara Bosswald.

But yeah. I like that Ten doesn't like it. He's doing his own thing.

I got more of the sense that she just wanted to move on with her life.

Doctor Who: So you can go anywhere in time and space.

Clara Oswald: Nope, I want to live a normal life.

Doctor Who: But we've barely scratched the surface.

Clara Oswald: Yeah, but you always put me in danger.

Doctor Who: Okay. We'll go somewhere safe. We can watch a nebulae from a safe distance in the TARDIS whilst drinking tea. What could be more safe?

Clara Oswald: Then we'll get spotted by your wife who will rope us into another adventure.

Doctor Who: I didn't think of that. You are a clever girl. Okay. I'll sabotage the TARDIS's com system so that River Song can't rope us into another adventure.

Clara Oswald: She'll still find a way. Your TARDIS still gives off a signature.

Doctor Who: You're getting good at this. You know what? You could make an excellent Doctor. Why didn't I regenerate into you?

Clara Oswald: Umm? Because you can't control what you regenerate into.

Doctor Who: True. Besides, I would have to shrink.

Clara Oswald: Hey!

Doctor Who: Normally I abandon my companions, not the other way round.

Clara Oswald: Think of it as going on a break.

Doctor Who: That sounds much worse. You make it sound like we're a married couple about to get a divorce.

Clara Oswald: Oh Doctor. That's a bit pessimistic. Besides in ten years time I might be up for another adventure. You have a Time machine. You can just skip those ten years and meet a Clara who has had enough of teaching. Now if you excuse me I have paperwork to do.

Doctor Who:  How about I do all of your boring paper work?

Clara Oswald: No, because you'd rope me into one of your dangerous adventures. I work in one of the most stressful jobs around. Yet the stress I get from my job is nothing compared to the stress of almost getting yourself killed on a daily basis. I just want to have a normal life. Oh and no roping my boyfriend into your crazy adventures!

Doctor Who: Unbelievable. You'd rather do boring paperwork and teach screaming children than travel through Time and Space!  Unbelievable. :crying:

I'm really digging Capaldi so far. I think he has the potential to become my new favorite Doctor. Hopefully he will stay the Doc for more than 1 season, but for some reason I seriously doubt they can/will keep such a high-profile actor as the Doc for longer than 1 season. We'll see.
