Speaking of, I see some folks call Clara a Mary Sue. What's your stance on this?

Who's stance? Mine?

Well, even if you didn't want to hear my opinion on it, I'm going to give it to you anyway. :P

I think Clare is borderline mary-sue-ish, but not quite. From time to time she did seem to steal the spotlight away from other characters, even the Doctor (e.g. what we call a "black-hole sue") and that was quite annoying.

For example, the speech from the Doctor at the end of The Rings of Akhaten was quite brilliant and it brought a tear to my eye. Then all of the sudden Clara had to steal the spotlight away from the Doctor's speech with her own speech, which was not nearly as good or as emotional as the Doctor's speech. Then we see the monster die because of Clara's speech and her diary. It really pissed me off big time.

Where the Doctor's speech felt true and had emotional weight to it, Clara's speech was completely meaningless to me. It was such a dissapointing conclusion to a scene that could have been so good if it ended with the Doctor's speech, instead of Clara's speech. At that moment I really did think Clara was a piece of sh!t Mary Sue, but I changed my mind in later episodes. Now I think Clara is just a mediocre character, but not necessarily a Mary Sue.

Think they'll ever do a Ginger girl as a regeneration of the Doctor?

Haha,, anyone can give their thoughts on it. ;)

I get what you're saying about the Rings of Akhaten ending, that annoyed me too, it brought down the episode as a whole, and it wasn't that good of an episode in the first place. Other than that and a few other times I don't think Clara has been that bad as a companion, so far.

I agree re the comments about that ending.  I thought that Matt Smith gave his all for that speech.

Clara has been ok as a companion.  But then she has some tough acts to follow!

I vote on Andrew-Lee Potts for the Twelfth Doctor.

He would satisfy the screaming fangirls (who were mad when Tennant left) and at the same time actually deliver some quality acting.

Hugh Laurie is too good to be true. If he would become the 12th Doctor I would die. It would be a good death though.

And if Hugh Laurie was the Twelfth, they'd have to find a spot in there, even one-off, for one Mr. Stephen Fry.

Not gonna happen though. As I said, I think Andrew-Lee Potts is a more realistic bet of a potential 12th Doctor. And honestly, I think he could pull it off.

Nah, better than him would be one Ms. Elizabeth Comstock/Ms. Anna DeWitt

I mean, she wears TARDIS blue. She jumps through tears in space and time. She's a girl.

Come on.

Except she doesn't jump through tears in time, but through tears in dimensions.

Also, the TARDIS has been different shades of blue over the 50 years of Doctor Who.

Also, my suggestion was serious, while yours obviously isn't. :P

Also, call me a sexist, but I don't want a female Doctor. That would be terrible.

Edit: I think Elizabeth would be better casted as the TARDIS herself (like in the episode The Doctor's Wife).

She opened a tear to Paris a good 70 years later. Thats time travel to me. And even if all she could do was dimension jump, thats what the TARDIS is for.

She's perfect for the role.

I think we're ready.

I hate to act like a grumpy fanboy, but no, that's not what the TARDIS is for. :P

Normally, the TARDIS can only travel through time and space, but not through dimensions.

Anyway, I think Hugh Laurie would make a great Doctor, but I think the problem with him is that he's already widely known as an entirely different doctor, Dr. House. ;)

That was my point, the TARDIS is for spacetime jumping, and Liz can dimension jump herself.

No need for the same capability twice. :P

Hence- perfect Doctor.

Speaking of which, if the Doc was female this go around, would she have male companions? Would she continue to have female companions? If romance was explored, would it continue to be with women more often than not or with men?

Would be interesting to see what route they took. Thinking about it, it'd be cool to see a FemDoc and Clara exploring space time and doing their thing.

With the Doc going, "Okay, no problem being a girl this time, tons of new parts and all that, but STILL not ginger? COME ON!"

I wonder if gender-swapping is even possible for a Time Lord. Sure, I know that one of the first things the 11th Doc said was "I'm a girl!?!?!?" but I think that was just him being silly (as he often is).

I think female Time Lords will always stay female, and male Time Lords will always stay male.

It'd be interesting but I don't think they're going to risk it.

I believe gender-swapping is possible. Hence I'd love to see it happen, even if its just for one Doctor.

It'd be historic, and can be done incredibly well as long as they don't go down some cheesy routes like, "The Doctor's a girl now, looks like she needs a knight in shining armor to save her!" or "THE DOCTOR'S PREGNANT"

Just everything the Doctor is now, but as a woman this time. It'd work.

I don't think River Song would be anything like a FemDoc, to be honest.

You don't know that, since the Doctor's personality is different with every single incarnation (aside from a few key traits that is).

River Song fits your description of a fem Doc perfectly, and I think that was the general idea behind her character; an equal to the Doctor in both intellect and heroism, except she's female.

But honestly, I think a female Doctor is a BAD idea and again, I don't think it's even possible. Do we have proof that Time Lords can actually gender-swap during regenerations?

Edit: that said, I did LOVE the Doctor-Donna meta-crisis, and I would have loved to see more of Doctor Donna.

Eh, I can't see River Song as a convincing Doctor. She's not...Doctory enough. Too...Rivery.

In the episode "The Doctor's Wife", The Doc explains that yeah, gender swapping is possible.

"Later, in the fourth episode of the series, "The Doctor's Wife", it was stated that Time Lords can potentially change sex during a regeneration, something which had never been confirmed before (although, at certain points during the show's history, female actors have been suggested as possible candidates to play the Doctor)."
