As for female doctor actress - Olivia Colman or Helen Mirren.

Anyway, I think Ms. Dormer is far too busy to be The Doc.

:whistle:Was watching paper review on Andrew Marr show saw the Olivia Colman thing but not Helen Mirren, thinking was another paper they also mentioned Idris Elba who I think would be great Doctor, he more Eccleston than Tennant style I would assume.

The Doctor's not going to gender swap. There's been speculation of it going back as far as the 4th Doctor, but it hasn't and isn't going to happen in the near future from a production standpoint. It would alienate too much of the mainstream audience: the call for a Female Doctor when you get down to it, is really just an internet thing. A black or non-white Doctor is far more likely than a female one at the moment.

And people Catherine Tate? What? You can't cast companions as the Doctor. You can't.

If there were to be a female Doctor, I think Olivia Coleman would be great. She's a fine actress to boot!

Re male Doctor, I would say either Richard Ayoade (I like his quirkyness) or Idris Elba would be good.

By the way I would love to see Doctor Donna again. I think Donna Noble was my favourite companion (along with Sarah Jane).

Had Catherine Tate not been Donna, she'd of made a wonderful Doctor. As long as she acted somewhat like she did as Donna(and when she became part Time Lord).

Hey, Moffat asked a group of people if they'd accept a female Doctor. The response was mixed, and he proceeded to clarify that a female Doctor is possible and that they look for anyone capable, regardless of gender.

So there's hope.

I remember when people thought Billie Piper was going to be the 11th.

Someone thought that?

Mind you, she did act all Doctor-like during the "Turn Left" episode. It was a bit creepy.

lolno

Billie Piper was the least equipped to ever be The Doctor. I loved her as Rose, but she worked(for me) because she contrasted The Doctor.

Hell, Martha, Amy, DEFINITELY Clara and Donna would've made better Doctors than a character like Rose ever could.

I like Piper a lot, but she's not cut out for that type of role.

No one ever in this thread ever said Catherine Tate should or ever will be the 12th Doctor. In fact, I said the exact opposite; I said Catherine Tate would make a good female Doctor, BUT it will NEVER happen, because she already was Donna Noble.

Also, I think the next Doctor is going to be a male ginger.

Rupert Grint? (I hope not)

Idris Elba was briefly considered for the the role of the 11th Doctor, so I say that he definitely is a realistic possibility for the 12th.

And yeah, Donna Noble was my favorite companion as well. She was absolutely amazing.

Personally I think Billie Piper as Rose Tyler is overhyped. I never really saw the appeal in her (aside from the obvious phyical appeal, she is indeed quite the looker). I personally prefer stronger, more out-spoken woman (like Catherine Tate, lol).

She is a good actress (not her fault Rose was a pretty awful character) but yeah no.

No companions as the Doctor. Ever.

Am now thinking of European actresses with red hair, pale skin, and freckles.

I don't think any serious Doctor Who fan would ever suggest such a thing.

Doctor Donna was awesome though, for as long as that lasted.

But yeah you're right, Billie Piper is a good actress, but Rose Tyler a boring character.

Can we all please stop joking around about female Doctors now? We all know it's highly unlikely that it's gonna happen (now or ever) and I rather speculate about serious possible 12th doctor candidates, or speculate about who the hell John Hurt is going to play in the 50th anniversary (and thereafter?).

Pfft, I never joked about there being a possible female Doctor. Its being discussed, and Moffat is totally open to it by his own admission.

It's only being discussed by a select few people on the internet, mostly the white knighters, the rainbow brigade and the feminists.

Even so, I hoped to talk and speculate about a bit more here than a potential female Doctor, which I hope is never ever gonna happen (with the sole exception for a short plot or story like the Doctor-Donna meta-crisis, I could accept and apperciate that).
