I was just watching a parody of FFVII HD (which was a mix of AC footage and FFXIII menus), and I was wondering, would the scene in FFVII where Cloud dresses up as a women be considered offensive (or distrubing to some) if it was released today (in HD) ?

I wouldn't really be bothered, but I was wasn't bothered that RE5 involed a white guy killing African zombies, but some in the media were pretty offended by it.

Jade Empire is a decade more recent and also had cross-dressing for male PCs. (also possibly the female PCs, as a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman)

Dragon's Dogma also had a bit of cross-dressing (if you wanted to befriend the female bandits with a male character in your party). Of course, the part in FFVII was slightly more expansive on the subject, but I don't think it was offensive or disturbing.  If we can have games where people are being murdered, I really don't think there should be any issue with games featuring cross-dressing.

The people who are offended that you play a white dude killing African zombies and the people who are offended about a man dressing in drag are on the complete opposite ends of the offended spectrum.

Of all the things in the world to be offended or disturbed by, the sight of a guy in a dress isn't high on my list. Or anywhere on the list at all, for that matter. On a clear summer day, it can just about make out the shape of the list on the horizon if it squints a bit. I'd be generally concerned by anyone who would consider it "disturbing", to be honest.

You were able to cross dress in the Fable games and that was hilarious.

I don't see how its offensive in any way.

There is hardly anything immoral that isn't acceptable in the western world today, and that is the reason it will fall by the end of this century.

I would think if it was done like Serendipity's eww that woman sounds like a man, people could be offended. Because that happened. I'm sure it's not the same at all cuz she's transgender, though I don't recall her ever saying so in the game.

Is op for real? Cross dressing was already half the theme of a Disney movie.

Suikoden V has a scene where one of your 108 stars of destiny dresses up as a woman to distract guards for you to knock out. Personally I find the concept hilarious..

Brb, going to go borrow a dress from my sister and hasten the demise of civilisation. Maybe the post apocalypse western world will have less crap on the internet.

I fully support crossdressing on a mission to infiltrate a harem to kill its "leader."

If I could wear Vera Keyes' dress from Fallout New Vegas as a male courier, I'd totally wear it to the Ultra-Luxe.

@In Exile- It's in the Imperial City, near the Scholar's Garden. There's a sidequest for a theater troupe that's missing one of its actors who played the role of some noblewoman. If you have a female PC, if I recall correctly, the coordinator guy scoffs that you could at least have the decency to pretend to be a man pretending to be a woman.

There's been crossdressing in video games for quite a while now. Some games that stand out are Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Blazing Dragons, Fable... hell, Chrono Trigger even has a transexual in it. LOL.

Persona 4(it's even central to one character's arc) and Legend of Heroes: Trials in the Sky had it too.

The bit in FFVII is more disturbing because of context rather than the actual crossdressing. ~_~

Right! I totally remember that. I just forgot about that questline. Loved the opportunity to take the subversive CF path.

Doesn't Cloud already look like a girl in his default outfit?

All jokes aside: Crossdressing is generally more accepted in Japan than it is in the west. Just look at the average Japanese pop- or rock-bands, they're all crossdressers.

I personally have no issue with boys (or girl) who do crossdressing. Some boys (or girls) can actually pull it off quite well and manage look actually rather good as cross-dressers.

The Gazette for example, is a band that I used to listen to a lot as a teen, and they crossdress, and they actually look good in their gender-bending attire:
