Does anyone know if it's possible to do any sort of area transition without creating a waypoint? I tried using DoAreaTransition to an object's tag, but no dice.

I decided it's not. There's no other function available to go between areas and there's no way to dynamically spawn waypoints. It's a hard-coded engine limitation. Snap.
