I plan on playing a demo and listening to word-of-mouth reaction to the game before I consider buying Dragon Age 3. I bought DA2 and Mass Effect 3 when they were sixty bucks and really regret that so I'm kind of cautious(ly optimistic.)

Despite its flaws I enjoyed DA2, Bioware would probably have to actively sabotage their own game for them to ruin DA:I for me.
If somehow it was ruined I'd avoid pre-ordering DA4 and check out reviews from people I have a measure of trust for. Maybe that would lead me to not buying DA4. As for what would ruin it for me, well if I didn't like any of the companions that might do it, but as I said, I don't think they could 'ruin' it for me without really going out of their way to. At most I might be disappointed, doubt it could be ruined for me.

I would just return it and play something else. What would ruin it for me? First person, no character creator, no dialogue choices, no companions. So I'm pretty sure I will love DA:I

The only thing that would put me off is a totally nonsensical plot.
That being said, I must admit that I don't have very high standards for a video game. As long as I get to spend a good amount of time enjoying it, I'll be happy. So far every Bioware game I played successfully fulfilled that requirement for me (yes, even DA2, doing my 6th replay right now), so I'm not too worried about DA:I
And if DA:I does turn out to be awful I won't lose any sleep over it. It would be a shame though, because I like the lore & backstory from Thedas.

"What Would Ruin DA3 For You?"
3 colored ending and spacebrat in the end. Apperently you can't go any further to ruin the series more.

How about we wait for the actual game and then potentially worry? Sorry, couldn't resist ;]
I can't think of what would really ruin the game for me, I liked DAII and ME3, so I'm rather optimistic. I guess I would be disappointed if the ending was generic and wouldn't resolve the story. BW would have to take 180 degrees turn and drop the ball on rpg elements, then I would complain... I can't imagine this happening though.

Ok, now when I think about it I wouldn't like if multiplayer/co-op was tied to single player campaign, like in ME3.

Hmm...what would ruin DA3 for me...
Male pro-tag voiced by Raphael Sbarge... (I CAN'T HEAR ANYBODY ELSE RAAGH)
More weird elves...
ME3-style dialogue wheel...
Leliana as a party member and romance option regardless of whether she was in DA:O...
Hack and slash combat...
Dubstep soundtrack...
Completely pointless cameos...
Past characters appearances ruined in the case they do have cameos...
Genesis style comic for choices...
Choice-selecting checklist as the only option rather than an import...
A poorly executed ambiguous ending...
The Warden being canon'd to be something like a male Human Noble who romanced Morrigan...
Probably more...
What will I do if I am disappointed? I dunno. Cry and moan on here, probably.

The only thing that would ruin the game for me would be lack of a player created protaganist. And thats something I'd know about long before I bought the game.

A protagonist who I did not like. Player created protagonist should make this avoidable, though too much railroading .
Something sufficiently stupid to do with previous protagonists potentially, though I might be able to get around this by not importing.
And I suppose potentially general rubbishness along the lines of being badly written, badly voice acted and/or having really boring combat.
What'll I do? Well, I probably won't be buying it on release because of Day 1 DLC, so I'll be able to get some feedback as to how good it is. And if it gets bad reviews then I'll only buy it when it's really really cheap, and if I've only payed a small amount of money I probably won't mind too much if it's not very good.

They'd probably make me pay for the meal and the tip. Along with that, I would be terribly frustrated if they were only willing to have Sushi for dinner, and regularly complained about my last girl friend. That would be awful.
Wait, we aren't talking about awful first dates?
Hmm, I'm usually quite tolerant. If it was seriously buggy (graphical issues, quests that could not be completed) and reused maps like they did in Dragon Age 2, that would really ruin it for me. Would probably wait to hear if patches are coming soon, and if I don't like what I hear I'll return it to Gamestop.

Not much would ruin the game for me other then a nonsensical story, a set protagonist (like Shepard in ME3 with the bare bones dialogue wheel and the overused auto dialogue), or forced multiplayer (where you have to play it to get a "good" ending).
I can handle pretty much anything else, though I would be really frustrated and disappointed if things like reused maps still managed to creep back into the game especially after how much criticism the team got for it with DA2.

STORY
A tell and don't show approach (ME3)

A protagionst thats as the emotional complexity of a brick (Shepard, Hawke)
Forced emotion
After tought customisation options for pc and companions
GAME PLAY
Generic Enemies
Repetitive game play
Uninspired game play
Lack of proper boss fights
Repetitive Enviorments

I'll be done with BioWare. It'd be like shooting my dog, I'd hate it to my core. But no way will I stand poor quality games after their third strike. I'll probably still enjoy them, but I'm looking at it objectively. It would certainly not be on.

This is like one of those 'What if Romney wins?' things we had before the election. ie. pointless.
At the end of the day DA3 being terrible is hugely unlikely. If it is, well there'll be a lot more vitriol on the forums, the entire team will probably transfer to the new IP, and there won't be any more Dragon Age.

I think such an ending (if it did happen) would be pretty damning to the series (IMO). Obviously people are divided on the issue; I personally didn't care for the sudden shift at the end, but I'm not a person to hate Bioware forever over such an ending; but the fact that is HAS been a year and people are still talking about it should mean (again IMO) that Bioware should avoid anything looking even remotely similar to it.
For me, if the ultimate solution to the Mage vs. Templar issue is to merge everyone and make everyone a Mage, or sever everyone's connection to the Fade, thus removing magic forever; I would not care for the campaign too much. I don't think it would be anything that would make me hate Bioware, but I would be disappointed if such an ending did happen, because ; for me; it wouldn't be dragon age anymore.
Also I wouldn't be to thrilled with the main antagonist doing horrible things for everyone's benifit. It is an interesting plot point, if done well, but IMO it wouldn't be DA anymore.

It would be ruined if Bioware doesn't get adventurous with the setting and thematic elements of the world. I want some serious culture shock and will be extremely disappointed if Orlais is just Ferelden with a color pallet swap...
