It's possible with the last of Geralts memroies coming back, he learned some old moves he didn't know he could do which resulted in him killing Letho.

It's possible, but I like to think Geralt simply won because Geralt was just better with his sword work then Letho, where Letho was faster then Geralt.

I'm inclinded to think we'd see or hear a mention of old skills returning if that was the case, so I tend to go with the second option.

Geralt was superior to Letho in the
past, Letho kidnaps Triss because Silas screws him over not to
antagonize Geralt, well not directly at least, and yes it was made clear
regaining his memories made him stronger

I may be forgetting something but I don't recall Geralt's past superiority being being established at any given point.

in two occasions

1 Letho is nearly killed by a cockatrice (is that spelled right?) and Geralt defeats it
2 Lethos 2 followers are scared ****less of Geralt in Roache's path

Geralt? Yeah, unfortunately.

It's used as a device to bridge the gap between the source novels and the game series, but it's still frustrating.

Doesn't impact his fighting skill or physical abilities, he slaughters monsters and people like any protaganist, it's more a point of motivation to move the story along. I have yet to see a cutscene were him regaining memories results in something other than exposition.

I just watched the fight on Youtube, and it really does not come off the same to me as Leng at all. The two characters clearly respect each other, and they're amicable at the end. Nor does the guy seem that upset that his 'witch' is getting kidnapped. Besides, he just walked away and the guy gets back up.

And at the point which he fights Letho it seems he's already regained his prowes. At no point in Tw2 is it mentioned that he's still regaining his fighting skills, he's even regained his knowledge of monster lore/slaying  techniques at that point.

Eh, I can handle cut-scene defeat. I just wish Kai Leng was actually built up to be a villain worth losing to.

His combat with Thane was just barely won because of his illness. His victory over Shepard was the result of rocks falling away. Kai Leng simply doesn't come off as a real threat and so his trash-talking is laughable as a result.

He doesn't know. She get kidnapped right after the fight. Characters not respecting each other or the protaganist being upset right at that instance wasn't amongst the stipulations you mention. Triss's kidnapping does have lasting consequence for the plot and Geralt's drive to move forward. Letho not only defeats Geralt he one ups him on more than one occasion afterwards. At the end of the game Letho actually succeeds in his scheme and Geralt isn't able to stop him, he does have to option to kill him for it but Letho's objective is largely accomplished.

some, not all....gargoyles, nekkers, rotfiends and so on he has to relearn in TW2. he also has to learn his FOOTWORK back and basic witcher training tree is mandatory

The big guy literally announces it.

I'm looking at some of the cutscenes, and this is pushing things. The guy jumps out a window, throws the protagonist through a freakin' stone wall, and is built like a house.

I think it's fairly clear the protagonist was outmatched by this guy.

He says he's going to, he hasn't yet, Geralt still thinks he can stop him.

They're both Witchers(mutants).
