Which boon is better for the City Elf?

Okay, this playthrough I'm doing a female city elf, romancing Alistair who I plan to make king.

But there's the issue of the boon.

The Alienage Bann Boon is bugged in this instance and keeps the slide from appearing right, but arguably still happens. On this hand, the lives of the elves improve up until the humans riot(people need to learn to get over themselves and their false sense of superiority) and Cyrion or Shianni are murdered if the Warden him/herself doesn't accept the job.

But there's also another option with just as much potential. Becoming Alistair's chancellor. As chancellor, the Warden is essentially the power behind the throne, and rules in Al's place while he's away on business or something. And Alistair will raise an elf to his court anyway despite protests. So in a way, becoming chancellor gives a City Elf warden a lot more power and authority to help the elven people than just being a Bann which wont last.

I agree, the chancellor is probably the best choice as the other one is a wasted choice. And its also the best choice to stay close to Alistair with a good reason, that wont bring up questions :)

Or become teyrn of Gwaren and reshape the policies of the south of Ferelden. You'd be on the throne (of Gwaren) instead of behind it.

(The old guy who always votes for Loghain at the Landsmeet?  Has lands that neighbor Gwaren, and he doesn't dare oppose Loghain because of that. It's a big chunk of land with a lot of people and power, and its teyrn has sway in the remoter hinterlands of Ferelden.)

Alistair doesn't need the encouragement of his chancellor to be nice to the elves. He'd do it anyway, and probably encourage whatever Chancellor he has (be it Eamon, an elven Warden, or a non-elven Warden) to do the same. I think the most good you can do the elves if Alistair rules is probably to have a vote in the Landsmeet. If you want to do the most good that probably means Gwaren rather than the Alienage, but since I'd already had a Teryn Of Gwaren Warden and could do it again with any subsequent Wardens of any Origin, (and because my CE was itching to go back to his family) I made him the Bann.

Teyrn. This is partially why I don't really see any merit to the Bann choice, as it's pointless aside from the fact that it's the only recognized one in game. Why would you say "Hey, I want a Bann for the Alienage" when you can become a frickin' Teyrn (or if Alistair's not on the throne, Chancellor to help Anora win points with the City Elves).

If Alistair is on the throne (and especially if hardened), then becoming Chancellor is just redundant. Sure, you could headcanon that your CE is manipulating an unhardened Alistair to make an Elven supremacist nation, but barring that becoming Chancellor for Alistair really isn't necessary to help Elves.

I tried making Shianni a noble woman in my boon. It's a shame that it's bugged, because making her a Bann would be perfect. My female city elf would stay King Alistair's mistress and advisor in Denerim and she Shianni could make a real difference for the alienage. It's one of the few Wardens I have who went along with the Dark Ritual too, because she can do a lot more for her people alive than dead.

You are aware that ends with Shianni being lynched?

Actual slides, and they're supposed to trigger no matter WHO is on the throne.  So in an unbugged game, Alistair may not be that great for the elves either.  A broken flag was keeping these from triggering (aside from the flag not getting set properly).

EDIT: Putting in spoiler protection.  Highlight to read.

With a new bann in the Landsmeet to represent them, the city-born elves found a better lot than ever. New law gave the elves more trading rights and their own militia within the Alienage.

(Shianni) Resistance from humans saw a rise in violence in the city, however, which culminated in Shianni's murder by a human bigot several years later. The resulting riot in the Alienage forced a crack-down from the throne, a clear signal that the tension with the elves had not been resolved.

(Soris -- the file that would show what it takes for him to get this is inaccessible) A year later, Soris's marriage to a wealthy human woman caused a scandal in both parts of the city--resulting in a riot within the Alienage that forced a crack-down from the throne. Angered, Soris resigned his title and left Ferelden with his new wife. No new bann was named to replace him.

(Warden) With <FirstName/> as their new voice, the elves became prosperous in a way they had never known... enough to draw elves from nearby lands, desperate for real hope. The influx built ire among the human population and eventually resulted in a riot in Denerim, showing that as much as things change, they always stay the same.

(Unnamed Elf Bann) Resistance from humans saw a rise in violence in the city, however, culminating in an angry mob outside the Landsmeet that stoned the new bann to death. The resulting riot in the Alienage forced a crack-down from the throne, a clear signal that tensions with the elves were far from resolved.

I prefer for the CE to become chancellor (Chancellor!) because of the whole lynching and riot potential. However, even being chancellor still poses problems.

Ah, does it?  I did not see it in the slides but I guess it sucks to be her.  Oops.  I suppose if I ever play another CE I'll not do that again.  It seemed like a nice idea.

I don't find it difficult to ignore slides that never actually appeared for anyone in an epilogue that's been decanonised anyway.

There's logic in saying that being a Teyrn might be more beneficial, but I don't know if it would institutionalise things in the same way as setting up an official post for the leader of Denerim's Elves.

Well, and also my Warden doesn't really want to get stuck ruling places.

That guy is begging for the murder-knife.

if Shianni is made bann, she get's lynched? I don't remember that happening, but then I lost that play through so I will have to check it out this time. Does it make a difference if it's Anora who grants the boon or if it's Alistair?

It'll never happen without a mod.

It seems like it was supposed to happen whenever she was made Bann, but apparently there was a bug.  Which was never fixed by the Devs.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one can hear it without using a mod, then I think it's non-canonical.
