Dodging doesnt save you from any sync-kill except that of a Banshee and even not this one every time. I'm always host and i had Praetorians sync killing me very often (about 4-5 times, YES i call this often) by dragging me back 5m i ran already (Krogan) just to end up getting finished, even around corners and cover. The only way i know of effectively evading sync-kills is simply jumping over a closed cover (a cover that doesnt allow you beeing dragged around it), they can sting and hack and slash as much as they want, even if they get the sync-kill trigger they just pull you against the cover, making it fail shortly after (had that 2 times already).

I like the javelin on the trooper. I also run him with the pulse rifle with a regular team, or the shotgun when I want to cheese things out.

Great gameplay though, you would have had nothing but gold medals, nice :)

Damn and everything was going so well.
I can relate to this as in my solos it's always some small thing, a tiny little mistake that makes me fail.
Javelin on a trooper though...something I wouldn't do but you obviously know what ur doing.

They should remove sync kill mechanic. There must be a better way to implement this.

I would be absolutely, so much against this.

Sync kills are an integral, very important part of this game and I so much hope they are not going to remove them or alter them too much in ME4.

The only thing that needs to be altered is that if the enemy is primed for a sync and gets staggered, it should lose the priming. Currently it does not. It should also lose the priming if it flips (phantoms), or do any other animation that is not a sync kill. That would prevent all the bull**** sync kills we get and it would mean that if you get synced, you had it coming. On host, at least...

Dodging with the right timing and direction saves you 100% from every sync kill, if you're hosting. The problem is that sometimes you don't notice you should dodge until when it's too late (d'oh). Also, I don't know why you speak about dodging if you're playing a Krogan.

I just miraculously finished a totally derpy Glacier/Cerb/Gold solo. It was derpy bc I totally bungholio'ed a pizza delivery (wave 6 I think) which resulted in a gel and a missile - this is on PC, so we're usually happy with pizza. The irony is I had 4 devices on wave 10, and was ready to kiss the game goodbye... but I made it somehow. It was messy, but I made it. Also used last gel and ops pack mid-way on extraction wave. Eeep!

(gonna go watch naow)

Congratulations on the solo! Nice to beat wave 10 devices, good job. When I get it I always rage quit, don't even wait for the money...

*Promptly steals Jav flame trooper idea*

Haha, to be fair, I stole it too, back when it was released ;).

I tried several weapons on him and just couldn't find the right one. Then a guy called Feneckus came up with this and I fell in love

how did you spec your toaster?

Claymore + flamer is awesome as well. You can hide the reload just as you do with the Javelin, so they work in a very similar way and put out a very similar damage.

Personally, I prefer the Javelin for both role-playing reasons (:innocent:) and cause it gives me some ranged firepower too. There are situations in which you can't, or don't want, or don't have the time before your teammates swoop the field, to close in on the enemies. In those situations, I can still put up a respectable damage output, while the claymore can't.

On the other hand, the claymore's always the claymore. Can't go wrong with that gun

Build is 6/5/6/6/3.

Flamer for range, damage, armor.

Fortification for durability, power damage.

HM for power recharge, power damage, speed and vision.

Passive for power and capacity, headshots, weapon damage.

Javelin + Reegar/Hurricane ftw. A weapon for every situation.

Also, Mi-Chan/Coffeeholic93 has been playing a Flamer Javelin trooper since the character was first released.

Yoink!

Thanks for posting your build, will be giving it a try soon.

Even without roleplaying reasons, it just seems right (to me) to use Geth weapons on Geth because they get a weapon-specific damage bonus, and it just seems a waste not to make use of that. Which also meshes well with roleplaying reasons because Bioware did a good thing.

That sucks, Deerber. That was a good try though.

Watching that got me a bit aggravated; those Seeker Swarms are incredibly annoying.  At least your build there wasn't entirely CoolDown-dependent.

And the Space Crab is a cheap little b*tch anyway. Even its regular melee (pincer stabs) has a magnet effect; even if it doesn't sync-kill you and just stab at you repeatedly, you'll notice the player being pulled towards it.

You weren't synced through a wall, so it could be worse :P

Too bad it ended an otherwise superb run. Also, how you're using the Flamer and Jav is interesting. Have to try that myself some day.

I like your mixture of weapons and flamer. I've been running my trooper flamerless with the typhoon, but I re-specced to put 3 points in flamer (dropping rank 6 of fortification) just to dabble with this a bit.

the hybrid build isn't actually that hard to come up with on your own fyi

I just set him up for no flamer now so I can use him with shield power cells on gold

Very impressive gameplay. Just my 2 cents; I think you made a big mistake not keeping a track of that Praetorian behind you, but of course it's always easier to be smart afterwards.

Heh - Realizing I have pretty much the same build (on lolecksbawx). As much as I love the Jav, I just always felt obligated to use a shotgun with GTS for some reason, and/or maybe pistol. Gonna start playing GE with Jav v Geth too me thinks. Can't get enough of the vwip...kachunk!

Uhm... I didn't say it's hard, did I?  Anyway the build was straightforward to me, what I had problems with was the weapon. And if I'm not wrong, I remember Coffee telling me once something along the line of "oh I tested the Javelin as Feneckus said in that thread and I'm loving it" so... That's why I said that ;)

Seeker swarms are not bad, all you need to do is get one nearby then dodge away.

Plagues, on the other hand... Are mother****ing galactic interstellar ubercheap ****es! I hate them with a passion. If you get close enough to one for it to explode, you can do whatever the **** you want, you're gonna get swarmed anyway. You can litterally be on ther other goddamn end of the room, and they'll reach you anyway. They should have got a radius nerf the moment the were put into the MP.

Praetorians, on the other hand, are ok for me. As almost all bosses, they aren't the threat. You just need to keep track of their position... Something I clearly forgot in this run :pinched:

Yeah, I got the idea from Feneckus. I played the No-Flamer build and I didn't find it satisfying. Saw his build, made some tweaks and BOOM - Favorite kit, right there.
