Why am I bothering metioning this game? Because it's the best crpg available today that isn't on PC! There is a demo available on the eshop that is pretty damn long and the save data can be transferred to the main game if you actually buy it.

If this teaser doesn't pique your interest then don't bother.

Some reviews if you need it.

Also has some great music like Lush Woodlands and Margherita's Afternoon

Etrian Odyssey IV is a challenging game like anything Atlus it's not for people who hate hard games. EOIV does have a easier difficulty setting and it is alot more balanced than previous games which makes it the best version for newbs.

This is one I keep shoving to the back of my purchase list. Gaaaah... so many games. Eventually I'll pick it up.

Unfortunately this game came out the same month as Fire Emblem Awakening so obviously FE:A got more attention but damn this game is fantastic. Reminds a lot of Wizardy. EO4 especially is really tailored to easing new players into the mechanics. You'll still run into enemies that do a ton of damage and you'll overextend yourself but you have a lot of freedom to experiment with your skills and classes. Just try stuff, there is no real definite ideal strategy in the early game.

And dat sound track!

City of Radiant Ruin
The Ancient Oath
Grotto of the Adamantine Beast
Minor Labyrinth IV - Ruins Touched by the Memories of the Ancients
Battlefield - With Eyes Blazing

Pretty sad that some of these JRPGs have more in common with traditional rpgs than recent western rpgs do.  At least we'll be getting some relief soon with the crowd funding projects and other games like Chaos Chronicles.

I heard Dark Spire was good, btw.

Dark Spire is about as pure as it gets. If it weren't for the pictures, it reminds me of old text adventures. Lots of imagination required. The price is probably going up on this nugget.

P.S. Sweet tunes indeed, Skelter.

I actually have Etrian Odyssey IV - just haven't had time to play it. It's on my list of things to get to if I somehow claw my way out from under the pile of handheld games I have to go through. I'm currently semi-addicted to Soul Sacrifice on my Vita, but I may switch things up because I'm at a point where I believe I'll need to farm magic levels and/or offerings for a while before I can proceed story-wise.

I loved the game and played the entire series immediately after, can't wait for the remake of the first one.
