Was the Krysae in debut form truly overpowered?

I didn't get to play MP in the days when the Krysae was first introduced, and with all these nerfs, the Krysae is an underwhelming weapon without a real niche. However, when it was first released, or before its infamous ROF and zoom nerf, was the weapon actually overpowered?

As a side note, how would you make the Krysae viable without it being overpowered?

I used it as single shot weapon because I didn`t know there were 3 shots loaded.

...and yes it was damn good even when I thought it was single shot SR. Imagine what happend when I found out it was loaded with 3 shots (then I lost interest quick and stopped using it)

Just had this discussion in game. Three infitrators, FBW was a turkey shoot. Not even a challenge.

So yes, it was OP in my opinion.

It was some pretty good cheese, I'll give it that.

A multi-shot sniper that didn't require aim and still did spectacular damage? Cute.

Powerful on its own, but when in the hands of the GI, it would make Gold way too easy.

Yes, on a Geth infiltrator it was an abomination.

Is it a bad thing if I consider it viable?

It was bad, real bad. I didn't even want to play in a game with someone using it, because I didn't even get to play when they did.

At the time, I called it air burst artillery feigning as a sniper rifle. All the speed runs used it. It was the new old Falcon, maybe worse.

What made it overpowered was the fact that you didn't need to aim it. You only had to point in the general direction of something to hit with full damage, and when you took away the time spent aiming you get much higher dps.

Here's an example:

On a GI, with Proxy Mine, I killed 3 Pyro's in 2 shots.

This.

It was like playing with a polite missile glitcher.

It was like playing with a missile glitcher, but one who you couldn't report because it was 'working as intended'. :?

they balanced the rof and the splash damage, it was godly before and it was light. basically every lobby has one or two using it. harrier was new back then and krysae is a rare card. i did't like it coz it made the game too easy.

Ironically, the Krysae in its release state might not have been considered overpowered, if it was released in Reckoning.

But at the time of its release, where hardly anyone had high level UR/promo guns, many guns were weaker than they are now, and Tactical Cloak wasn't yet nerfed, it was definitely overpowered.

As for what I would do to 'fix' the gun? Increase its damage by 50%. Its DPS would still be awful, but it would be able to kill most infantry in 1-2 shots regardless of class.

I had the Krysae at IX on Day One of release, and it was ridiculously powerful. Like, make gold a joke powerful. And this was at a time when I couldn't handle gold without good teammates.

The only bad thing about the gun was the occasional "missing round per clip" bug. But that's mainly because you didn't have to aim and just mash with the damn thing.
