DEVIL'S ADVOCATE TIME.
Isn't what we're doing here sort of an ad hominem? I mean, the biggest arguments we've had against him was that he is [in this thread] a hypocrite or that he is [in this thread] immature, but that really doesn't disprove his argument. Isn't quitting early usually considered a bad practice, along with bragging about your video game skills?
(though if this kills the fun, feel free to ignore it, lol)
It is a bit of an ad hominem but think about this. The ad hominem attack was actually done by the OP himself. He ruined the credibility of his own argument by attacking w/ a homophobic slur. Someone told him to go to bronze implying his skill wasn't great but that really didn't seem as great an offense as his retaliation. It's the case of the cure being worse than the disease. He could've been the more mature person & ignored it and focused on the relevance of his argument. The link to his previous thread simply served to reinforce the damage done.
Now as to whether quitting early is good or bad, it's good for a couple of reasons:
1) it's generally a waste of the joiner's equipment to carry, especially if the team wiped in wave 1
2) it frees up a slot for someone who doesn't feel the same way as the quitter & thinks he/she can carry
3) the quitter doesn't waste his time on what he perceives as a lost cause & moves on to a more productive & fun game
Now as to bragging about your l337 5k1llz, it's good & bad, depending on intensity:
1) a person saying "I got 'x' amount of kills" breeds competition amongst players, forcing the others to do better and elevate the level of gameplay
2) a person saying "I'm the best at killing, f4gg0t" breeds contempt amongst players, because it implies that no one can ever surpass them along w/ a glib insult. While it also breed competition, this one has more hubris attached to it, poisoning what should just ultimately be a fun game.
As the saying goes, "There's a fine line between confidence & arrogance."
