Also, based on acicm2's profile picture I'd be a bit scared talking to someone like that!

See its weird that you say you have had very little meaningful talks with random strangers. Probably my two best friends I've met on ME3 and we play anything from Borderlands 2 to Castle Crashers. Also to you with the Irish Accent, you lay down that sexy thing like you just brought it back, okay?

So I read the first two pages of this thread and my biggest take-away is that everyone is too awesome for us newcomers/ pugs/ idiots to be graced with your amazing-ness... this is kinda sad as I fully welcome the tutelage of those that know more than me, and really appreciate when I am told "Banshee behind you Sham," so I can immediately side dodge or something. There is so much complaint about us noobs not being very good, but I am sure many of you started in much the same place as we did. You didn't have maxed manifests nor intricate understanding of all the mechanics etc. Maybe you were lucky to find some friends and learn together as a team, but MANY of us are Pug Primes (forever Puggers). I cannot speak for the true idiots starting this game, but I for one really want to get better. It's why I come to the forums, it's why I watch videos, and download spreadsheets and study Narida builds...

I use a mic, and I try to help fellow players whenever possible. I TRY to mute when one of my teenage daughters walks by singing One Direction (sometimes I spare my team that), and when in a back pack (which is happening less and less) I stay constantly looking behind the person I've tagged most able to let them know of hidden threats. Please don't hate us for being new, or seeming idiots. It's us New People that are helping to keep the servers up.

Side note: Got into a party with the #11 player on Xbox last night. Great group of vets, all had mics, 2 solid gold extractions. Very enjoyable crew!

no one is hating you for being new. I bet you if you made a thread looking for teammates you would find a good amount of people willing to play with you.half of the people in pug lobbies want to talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with the game.

My system is not friendly for things like headsets. I've an maudio card designed for recording music with separate L/R in/out on a breakout box. It'd be a pain to sort out and I CBA :D

Protocol for PC is to have a mic and play together in silence.

Wrong. Propper behavior on PC is to use Mumble or TS with friends and talk about everything but ME. Or any game you might be playing at that time.

Good point, I remember playing in the beginning during the beta, and feeling like a boss when I did a bronze. Glad to see new people, and yes I wish we could keep the mics up. It just makes everything better.

I have mic!

In PUGs I'm usually quiet unless someone else is talking (rare on PC). If with friends I will talk a lot if the group is talkative and less if the group isn't. Also, sometimes I play with my kids shouting in the background so I'll turn my mic off.

Mass effect can be a bit repetitive is you play in silence all the time and all these "pros'" complain about pugs but , like you are the one searching for a quick match so stop complaining and also it doesnt make you cool because you can stay alive longer then someone who doesn't have the same equipment and weapons as you so all these post about how you solo or carry pugs are just funny. Platinum is pretty easy most of the time weather it be with pugs or friends but it becomes a lot easier, funner and quicker if you use a mic that why i try to only play with ppl that talk. Seem like a lot of ME3 players really are too uncomfortable or to young/immature to hold a conversation or even participate in vocal teamwork

Well I'm on PC and i use a mic in push to talk mode with randoms when in the mood and sometimes teamspeak with friends. (No mikes here - too expensive to keep :D )

With randoms I only use it sparingly for game-related stuff like thanking for revives or warnings not to revive if the reapers are having a party on top of my remains. Or things like taking missile guard during objectives, keeping an eye on peoples back when dead and thanking people after a good game. In 98% percent of games no one replies which is fine by me, but it's always nice when after an otherwise after a silent game someone else also says "thanks, good game".

I don't have a mic, but I won't plug it in even if I had it.
Why? Well, first of all because I play with low volume with speakers (I absolutely can't stand headsets) and I wouldn't hear anything at all. Second because I tend to get easily distracted and something that might seem helpful would then become a hindrance.
Third because I honestly don't like to chat, if I wanted a chat I'd just go to the nearest pub, at least I could speak my language and drink a beer.

I can personally attest that SilentStep79 actually once said hi to me with his voice, on a mic.  Then my Xbox exploded because, paradox.
