....my ability to transfer my save into Mass Effect 2? I noticed it says to transfer a save, the save must be on the original device it was created on, which it is not. I bought a new hard drive and used the cable it came with to transfer ALL the data to the new hard drive. Am I screwed?

I think so. I also heard that the data has to be on the original hard drive/device. Not sure why though, but I can't say you don't have to worry.

i would start a new character set it on casual and run through quick 1 playthrough main story only should only take maybe 8 hours.so 2nd time but with better gear should be like 6-7 extra hours. then your at 60

That only works if you don't want a 100% playthrough,  If you do then you need at least 18-20 hours for the first and about 13-15 for the second.

Just boot up ME1 and start a New Game. Then pick Existing ID. If your completions show up you're good to go for ME2.

Yes but that does not answer the question. There was a post by Chris on the old site that said that you had to be on the same system/hard drive etc. at least something to that effect. Sowe are wondering if the trasnfer screwed us. Because if you take a save file on a memory card and move it your saves will still show up and you can make a new game + with them. The worry is if we used the transfer cable will it kill our ability to import, Im in the same boat I went from a 30 to a 120 and Im hoping I dont have to play through the whole thing 100% again.

If a dev could answer that would be nice.

It does answer the question which is why that thread went on for ever with the same question asked over and over without response.

It really would just take a minute to boot the game and see if they show up for a NG+ Existing ID game. If they are there then the proper files were transferred over and you are OK.

Trust me I get the worry, but if they show up there then you are good as those are the same files that get used for a ME2 import.

If it shows up as a choice for New Game+ in ME1 then it should transfer to ME2.

If you're still worried, just load up the last save you made on the character you transferred and beat the final boss again, thus creating a new hidden save.

Yes, the end game saves are only on the hard drive you beat the game on. Just to be safe, reload the last save on your profile and just beat the endgame. After you whack you know who, a new save will be made.

What about if I do a new game plus with a completed character from another hard drive, and then beat the game with that character and use THAT completion?

You can do that. But if you just want the end game saves just do the things I stated before.

Do I really need a large hard drive to play Mass Effect 2 because I aready have a 20gb with all my ME1 saves. The only thing that bothers me is that second disc, how much space will it need to store on my hard drive? I would hate to pick up Mass effect 2 only to find out I don't have enough storage space to play it. I only use my Xbox to play Mass Effect and Gears of War so I really don't need a extravagant storage unit. A confirmation would really be appreciated.

This, I always have a save right before the Council decision on all my playthroughs just to be safe.

Well think about it, a DVD can hold up to 8 gig. but for me when ive downloaded games to the harddrive for faster loads Ive found that its usually only around 6 Gig.

If you arent going to download the whole dvd then you are definatly safe. if you have been downloading disks then there is always the "only download the disk you need at the moment"  so only have ME2's disk and only the disk you are on at the moment.

--------------

Also thanks to those guys who gave the idea to beat the last boss again to make a new save. That would be the simple answer and at the same time I didnt even think about it. Definatly elevates the worry.

I agree - I just tested it on my machine (got a new console with bigger hdd and transfered the data). All my three playthroughs show up for the NG+ option so it should be fine.

Out of curiosity, if i played through the first game on xbox 360, and plan on playing the second on PC, how in depth is the character creation in regards to prior decisions? Will I be able to recreate my previous character exactly?

Your fine. The files have to be on the device with your Xbox profile. When you use the transfer cable, it moves everything to the new drive while deleting it off of the other.

You can import your saves just fine.
